Happy New Year! Here’s a recap of our 2025 births. We are particularly proud of our low c-section rate which is more than 50% below the Colorado state average. Looking forward to serving our community for our 27th year in 2026!

helped me bring my beautiful girl into this world, and I couldn't have dreamed for a better experience. I had a vaginal en caul birth, also referred to as a "veiled birth" or "mermaid birth," which only happens in 1/80,000 births. Throughout history, these deliveries have been associated with good luck and even magic abilities🧜‍♀️

Because of the support, education, and love my team of midwives gave me, I safely and confidently birthed my perfect gift-wrapped baby ♥️ Thank you, midwives around the world, for being part of the magic!

It is bittersweet to announce the retirement of Amy Ginn, CNM, MSN. Amy has been working with mothers and babies since 1982. She has owned Southwest Midwives since 1999, originally with her business partner and co-founder Mary Louise (pictured in first photo) who retired in 2014.

Our practice is so grateful to Amy for her many years of hard work and dedication to providing midwifery care to thousands of women in the Southwest Colorado area.

While Amy will be greatly missed at the office and on the birth center, we wish Amy many happy years of retirement filled with hiking, gardening, reading, sharing meals with friends, and general escapades. She will remain in Durango with her husband, and two sons who live close by.

Amy feels the future is bright for the for the practice, as it goes into the hands of some incredible midwives who are just as dedicated to women's health as she has been over the years.
