In mid-August, thirteen Towaoc community members and Kathryn Jacket set out into the Mancos and Hesperus landscapes to gather töö'nap—the Ute Mountain Ute term for chokecherries. Throughout the day, participants learned how to spot and harvest the cherries while sharing family stories and cultural teachings. Thank you to all who participated! Exciting 2025-26 Colorado AHEC HOPE Program Starting Soon!

The Colorado AHEC HOPE Program is an innovative statewide collaboration among all 6 Regional AHEC Centers. Each center develops and teaches a lesson to high school attendees in person in their own center live, virtually synchronously to all other Centers’ recruits. Students participate in sessions with students from all over Colorado every 4-6 weeks.

During each session is hybrid, and high schoolers learn from educational presentations, activities, and discussions highlighting health issues and related careers. Activities will provide hands-on opportunities to understand how healthcare professionals use their skills and knowledge to increase community wellness. Discussions will introduce students to students in different regions, facilitating a cohort of like-minded individuals with shared interests and goals.
