As part of the WIC program, moms get nutritious food packages. WIC’s goal is to encourage mothers to breastfeed without supplementing with infant formula. Food packages vary based on how much mom is breastfeeding and how much infant formula a baby drinks. WIC staff provide breastfeeding assessments and help mom achieve her breastfeeding goals. Mothers who only serve breast milk and receive no formula from WIC can get canned fish and extra eggs, milk, cheese, and money to spend on fruits and veggies to support the extra nutrition needed for creating breast milk!
Babies who are only fed breast milk receive infant meats and twice as many infant food fruits and vegetables in their food packages once they turn 6 months old.
