Fitbit data links sleep and disease risk - A new study was based on nearly 6.5 million nights of sleep from over 6,700 Fitbit users participating in the All of Us Research Program collected over an average of 4.5 years. The research looks at links between sleep and human disease.

In a cohort of 6,785 participants from the All of Us Research Program whose sleep was monitored by a Fitbit over a median of 4.5 years, sleep duration, stages and irregularity were associated with the incidence of obesity and a number of cardiovascular and psychological disorders.

For the first time in Gallup polling since 2001, a majority of U.S. adults, 57%, say they would feel better if they got more sleep, while 42% say they get as much sleep as they need, and 20% report they usually sleep 5 hours or less at night.

A survey commissioned by the AASM found that 39% of Americans take a bath or shower as part of their bedtime routine, while only 34% go to bed at the same time each night. Twenty percent reported they smoke a cigarette or v**e before bed.

According to a survey from AASM, more than one-third of Americans experience disrupted sleep due to outside noise, indoor lights and outdoor lights.
