going to baby and me yoga with Erin meant a lot to me. having a baby during the pandemic was so isolating but thanks to and i went to prenatal and postnatal yoga on Zoom. it was there that i met Erin, internet friend in the Brady bunch box, and we commiserated on how bizarre and hard quarantine mom life was. fast forward 4 years and here i am in her magical affirming yoga class, in person, with my 2 month old! having new experiences with this baby doesn’t take away the losses from the pandemic. but wow mothering in true community feels so much more joyful and aligned with who i am. ❤️ grateful for science and the ability to be with others safely again.

Jenna here from River Flow Collective Healing. I’m here to share I’m taking a (more formal) break from teaching yoga workshops while I rest, recover and heal during this postpartum period. I had hoped to teach some workshops during this pregnancy, but every ounce of me needed rest and doing less. For me, this is a season of needing to receive. In a society that pushes productivity as worth, and expects moms to literally do it all, this receiving part isn’t as easy. But it is essential and we are all so deserving of love, support and rest.

I look forward to giving and holding group space again when I’m ready. I plan on continuing to teach at upon return from maternity leave, and will continue my trauma and perinatal therapy private practice part time. For now I’m stepping away from the collective, and hoping to see you on the mat - to receive - in one of the fabulous offerings of my yoga colleagues. ✨ 🙏

Confessions from a perinatal yoga teacher: I am 28 weeks pregnant, and I am not doing yoga asana daily, because I am exhausted. Who can relate?! This is my second child. I’m so grateful to be pregnant, at 38, with endometriosis, against a lot of odds. I’m also so weary and amazed at the toll pregnancy can take! My life has mostly consisted of work, toddler parenting and early bedtimes, and fighting daycare bug after daycare bug with very little immune system left for myself. I had many plans and dreams for this sweet pregnancy time - but like many things in life it has been different than planned. These photos are from a little window of light over Thanksgiving - a joyful beach trip with our family of 3.

I continue to teach yoga weekly at Anchor Perinatal, and hope to offer a workshop soon - I genuinely have some things to share from this experience - when I have enough energy to plan it. If you are also exhausted pregnant or postpartum, or just struggling during this sick season, please know you are not alone. Give yourself grace, ask for help, move when you feel like moving and go back to bed when you can. You deserve rest, and whenever possible - doing less.

With love,
- Jenna

Hi everyone! I’m Jenna, I am a perinatal + trauma sensitive yoga teacher, support group facilitator and mental health therapist out of Durham, NC. Outside of my professional life I am also a musician and a mom! I wear a lot of hats and I wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️

Lately I am loving teaching yoga and mindfulness every other week at Anchor Perinatal Intensive Outpatient Program! This program provides group and individual therapy three days a week for folks who need more support with mental health in pregnancy and postpartum. It has been a beautiful space to teach and I am so grateful this service is offered in our community. Mamas and birthing parents deserve more access to care when they need it! Looking forward to many more classes to come ❤️ Whole Mama Yoga Anchor Perinatal Wellness

I believe in bodily autonomy. I believe abortion is a human right. And now an abortion ban is likely coming to my home state of North Carolina. Not to mention the anti-LGBTQ, anti-voting, anti-liberation bills that are being passed in our state legislature. What a disorienting and infuriating time to be alive.

If you’re not sure what to do or where to put all this… here is a place to start. Together in community. Join us this Sunday 5/7 for Rage Circle: A Yoga & Movement Practice (virtual so anyone can join!) I am co-hosting this with my dear friend and fellow yogi Erin.

We'll find movement that helps us to release. We'll find breath that encourages letting go. We will find strength and solidarity in one another.

After class, you'll be sent a playlist for screaming in your car & a list of at home practices that encourage release.

All proceeds will be sent directly to The Carolina Abortion Fund. Link to register in comments!

I wrote a blog post about my journey being a pandemic parent, the support groups I've offered, and what I've learned about healing along the way. Check it out!

What a ride y’all. Being pregnant, giving birth and coming into motherhood - all during a global pandemic. I’ve been trying to make meaning out of it all, and part of my way of doing that has been to plan and lead pandemic grief support groups and workshop series for fellow “pandeparents.” I...

I am 1 in 10. Today is international womens day, and being a woman has been challenging for me due to chronic pain from endometriosis. My symptoms started when I was 13 and I wasn’t diagnosed until 25. Last night i went to see Below the Belt, a movie all about endo, struggles women go through like pain and infertility (and so much more), and the lack of treatment options. There is a serious lack of funding, provider education and general awareness about this disorder. And the one surgery that helps the most (excision) is only available with a handful of providers around the country and usually not covered by insurance.

Both of my grandmothers had hysterectomies, I can only assume this was also from endo. My ancestors, the women who have gone before me, also likely suffered this burden of having a uterus, but having a uterus shouldn’t be a burden but a blessing. I only hope things are starting to change.

I never thought I would see a movie like Below the Belt in my lifetime. I am especially grateful to for hosting the showing last night the panel speakers for lending their voices to the cause. It means more than you know for my pain - our pain - to be acknowledged and heard.

This month I finished the 30 day yoga journey with Yoga with Adriene. It was around 20 mins a day. I did most sessions after bedtime at 8:30 or 9pm. And y’all it has been tough! My mind is busy with so many other things and some days it felt so uncomfortable to try and settle, or calm, to find focus. I didn’t realize how much I needed this practice, and how on high alert my nervous system has been. It has helped my mood, my spirit, my relationships, my sense of connection to self, and I feel physically stronger too. Not exaggerating - for me, a daily short yoga practice is a game changer. I am a talk therapist but I am more and more aware that sometimes words are not enough, that our thoughts can only go so far. We need movement - I need movement. To help me find stillness in the midst of alllll the chaos. Thanks for inviting me on this journey with you and thanks for the creative daily practices.

Feeling grateful for the community we’re building in the Pandemic Parents workshop series at . led the most energizing flow. We had real conversations about the dark times of the pandemic and how truly isolating and bizarre it was to have and raise young children during that time. We talked about how we are still hurting and healing from the many challenges we faced, and that makes sense. We found comfort in being together. Looking forward to gathering again next month ❤️

Great to make new connections and hear about Kyrsten’s business, . She provides pelvic floor therapy and hosts community events as well. I love that she’s as occupational therapist - so she’s looking at functionality in everyday life! So cool. If you’re pregnant, postpartum or just need pelvic floor support can definitely recommend her as a resource! As a mental health therapist and yoga teacher a lot of my work is 1:1 or in small groups. It’s so life giving to be able to talk about perinatal wellness and our shared passion for this field. Grateful to be in community in this work ❤️
