TGIF! I hope you all had a great week! The wellness word of the day this Friday is simply 'Bye'.

Never feel ashamed or bad about excusing yourself from a situation that is harming your mental health. Verbal and emotional abuse can be just as harmful as physical abuse.

Removing yourself from a negative situation is also a great way to start to establish boundaries with people that are causing mental stress for you.

Try it out this weekend if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or in a stressful situation. Step away to gather yourself, and then come back with a level head to address the issue.

Feeling overwhelmed can really change the trajectory of the entire day. It can even turn into long periods of upset and lead to depression.

Here is a tip that can help to turn those bad vibes around - its called the 3-3-3 Rule.

By taking the mind off the upset and the "story" we tell ourselves in our minds about how things are going so wrong, we can lift our mood and refocus our thoughts.

Anxiety can be crippling and it can feel like a snowball rolling down a hill. Try this rule the next time you feel those negative emotions begin to rise. It just might brighten your mood and your day! 🤎

Do you get enough sleep every night? Sleep is very important in our overall health and wellbeing.

When we are not well rested we are not able to perform at our best. Studies show that 65% of people do not get enough sleep on a regular basis.

Lack of sleep increases the risk of:
Heart disease
Stroke
Hypertension
Diabeties
Cancer
Obesity
Impared immune function
and even death

Not getting enough sleep also increases the risk for depression by 4x!

It is recommened to get 7 - 9 hours of sleep each night. Going to bed before midnight is also more restorative for the body.

Proper self-care isnt just face masks, soaking in baths and meditation, it also requires us to get enough rest to be at our best.

40 million people in the US suffer from some form of anxiety disorder. Anxiety is described as intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. This may show itself as a fast heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating, and feeling tired.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month I wanted to share this tip on how to manage social anxiety. Preparation is a great way to get ahead of those anxious feelings. Feeling rushed sometimes makes things feel more hectic.

Honoring yourself means you are taking care of your mind, body and spirit. Take some time today to think about how you are feeling. Check in with yourself and know that awareness of your feelings is the first step to feeling better 🤎
