Over the last decade, Bosco has become a familiar face in our Westchester, IL Hanger Clinic. Diagnosed with CLOVES syndrome, a very rare congenital disorder, Bosco had his first partial amputation at 1-year-old. Now 11, he recently underwent a Symes amputation and is learning to walk again.

Clinicians Gwen Ansier and Beth Petrovic are working with Bosco to help him achieve his goals. They shared that he’s doing great so far, enjoying activities like wheelchair basketball and violin practice. 🎻🏀

While he’s still getting used to his new devices, we know Bosco is bound for greatness and can’t wait to witness all his accomplishments! Keep living your best life, Bosco! 🧡

October is , a time to honor the Down syndrome community, raise awareness, and promote inclusion. 💛💙

It’s also a time to recognize the importance of early support, like orthotic bracing, in helping children thrive and reach their full potential.

This month, we sat down with Marcello Girao, Hanger Clinic Certified Orthotist and Pediatric Specialist, to learn about bracing options, personalized care, and the importance of addressing alignment and stability concerns early.

After experiencing severe complications following a routine abdominal procedure, Zerlyn Jones underwent the amputation of both her arms and legs. Though the experience was traumatic, the 64-year-old is now making progress she once thought would be impossible.

Initially inspired by fellow amputee and Hanger LIVE 2024 Peer Mentor of the Year Kevin Leonard (right), Zerlyn also credits her recovery to clinician Jesse Mitrani (left) at the Hollywood, FL . As she’s worked to restore her mobility, Zerlyn has shared her dreams of a world where people with disabilities are fully accepted without judgment.

“We may look different, but at our core, we’re still the same people we were before our amputations,” Zerlyn said. “We have dreams, talents, and voices that deserve to be heard and seen. I hope the world will continue to grow in awareness, inclusion, and respect because we matter."

Zerlyn recently attended our 2025 event in Arizona and had a wonderful experience, and is currently working on a fashion show that will showcase adaptive clothing for those with limb loss. Zerlyn, we are beyond proud of your progress and can’t wait to see what you do next! 🧡

After undergoing a Van Nes rotationplasty procedure in January, she’s now cancer-free and learning to walk using her new prosthetic device. Football season is in full swing, and this year, osteosarcoma survivor Donnie Smith is repping his favorite team in a new way. 🦿🏈

A few years ago, Donnie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that resulted in the amputation of his right leg. With help from his Tallahassee, FL team and clinician Tim Larson, Donnie is regaining the strength to walk again using a hip disarticulation prosthesis.

Knowing his love for the Dallas Cowboys, the Tallahassee team surprised Donnie during his final fitting with a Cowboys-themed socket! “I was not expecting them to make it happen, but they surprised me on the day of delivery,” Donnie shared. “Hanger Clinic has treated me so well. From the office staff to the clinicians and residents, they are so wonderful.” 💙⭐

Donnie believes hard work and determination are the key to life and has dreams of competing in the Special Olympics someday. We’re rooting for you, Donnie! 🎉

Erin Stanzel is a 29-year-old registered nurse who loves national parks, traveling, and enjoying her home state of Wisconsin. Around age 18, Erin began experiencing issues with her right ankle that developed into Stage 4 osteoarthritis. Ultimately, Erin had to quit her job as a nurse due to failed treatments and began searching for a solution.

In January of 2025, Erin visited the Gig Harbor, WA where she was fitted with the ExoSym device by clinic manager Ryan Blanck. Erin was able to continue physical therapy at home, and this summer, she returned to work as a Sleep Medicine RN.

“I am a person who is always trying to live life to the fullest, and the ExoSym gave me so much hope that was previously lost,” Erin shared. “I cannot express how appreciative I am for the work Hanger Clinic does in helping patients be able to get back to their lives, goals, and dreams.”

Today, Erin is busy planning her next trip (she’s been to 27 of the 63 national parks so far!). 🏞🧡 Erin, we’re rooting for you and can’t wait to see where you visit next!

In honor of , we're introducing one incredible gal: Victoria!

Last year, the eight-year-old underwent the amputation of both legs above the knee and both arms below the elbow after an infection that led to sepsis. She was fitted with prostheses at the Phoenix, AZ and has been making amazing strides ever since.

With the help of her care team, including clinicians Anthony Berland, Leslie Martinez, and Indalecio Quintana, Victoria is enjoying some of her favorite hobbies—like painting, hiking, and sports—once again. Victoria and her clinicians are also working on some big goals together—she wants to swim and ride a bike on her own one day. 🚲🧡

Victoria’s mom says the fourth grader’s determination, faith, and positive attitude motivate everyone around her to keep pushing and see the positives in any situation. Victoria, we can’t wait to see you at Camp No Limits this month!
