Korn suggested the possibility of obtaining a fire apparatus for the town be looked into. This was the first record of any action regarding the company. Moderator Charles Reimers appointed a committee consisting of Frank Arigoni, Francis E. On October 18, 1926, the committee reported to a town meeting that the cost of a truck was $4,000. Those present voted to have the committee make a comprehensi

ve report at the next town meeting, in March 1927. This report, presented by Frank Arrigoni, included the views of Chief Pitt and Chief J.C. Vincent of Middletown. The report was tabled, and there is no further record of further action by this committee. Three and a half years later, at the town meeting of October 10, 1930, Chairman Alvin F. Rich appointed a committee to investigate fire protection in town and report to the selectmen. This committee consisted of Dionigi Arrigoni, Henery Berten, F.E. Korn, Fredrick H. Page, and Henry Ryan. At a special town meeting on March 2, 1931, moderated by Harry E. Coe, committee chairman Arthur I. Seward reported on the group's progress. Water supplies had been investigated to determine the type of equipment needed. The committee had also met with fire equipment companies which had submitted bids. The committee recommended purchase of a truck manufactured by Peter Persch and Company. Those at the meeting voted to purchase a truck not to exceed a cost of $3500. It was also voted, 34-4 that the committee proceed to organize a volunteer fire company for Durham.

Important notice to all Durham residents:

A reminder that due to the extreme fire danger, residents should not be engaging in any type of outdoor fires. Burning permits that may have been previously issued are suspended and we ask that all residents use extreme caution with any type of outdoor power equipment or other activity that may produce high heat. Please be mindful of leaf piles and do not park your vehicles (including lawnmowers) over large piles as the exhaust systems can produce enough heat to ignite the very dry leaves. If you come across any outdoor burning please report it via 911 as there have been numerous brush fires across the state which have spread rapidly due to the extremely dry conditions, especially on a windy day. The video below is from an incident today. Thank you all for your cooperation in keeping our community safe.

Good evening folks, just wanted to give a heads up that we will be conducting a drill this evening with our friends from Lifestar. There will likely be a helicopter landing behind the fire house and we wanted to make you aware as not to cause alarm. Thank you.

🌟🌟REUNiTED!!!!🌟🌟
Chase has been found! He was on the orange/blue trail of Mattabassett off Old Blue Hills Rd with his leash stuck and him barking. Team Chase members had been on this trail 3 other times during the week while he was lost. This was the 4 th travel through and his owner heard him bark and was able to get to him It took a few moments but Chase then recognized his fur dad Vinny. Vinny called CTDGRV Carol when he heard barking and Carol and drone pilot Eric from Zencat Visual Inc were on their way. Team Chase search member Helen had been on the trail previously and headed to assist at the location. So many people were involved in this rescue. Tracker Kelly came out and found a location where Chase had hunkered down for at least a night. At that spot where there were dog prints and fur which provided us a direction of travel and a point of interest. Thank you to homeowner Gail for allowing us to put up cameras and a trap. Thank you to other homeowners, farms, and businesses that put up posters, monitored their security cameras and searched their areas for other hiding places. Thank you for the tremendous amount of support we got from multiple people in the Durham and surrounding communities and Animal
Control officers from surrounding towns that shared and assisted on the search. Chase’s fur parents Vinny and Amy, Chris and their friends and co workers who shared the post and helped put up posters and walked the trails. Vinny and Amy never gave up. Thank you to our drone Pilot Eric, Tracker Kelly, and CTDGRV Carol, Kim, and Donna. Chase is at Piepers getting a check up but looks great given this was day 7 without his meds. Welcome home sweet boy. In comments we have a couple pictures of Chase at Piepers vet clinic and Eric with his new drone on this search.

UPDATE: We are asking homeowners in the area to please check under your decks, sheds, or other openings under structures where this boy can be hiding. He is familiar with horses and farms and may hunker down in a farm area. We are asking farm property owners to keep a look out for him hiding on your property and check areas where he may hide. Together let’s bring this boy home to his family. We need your help. Please share this update with your neighbors.

Missing in Durham. He is a friendly boy but may be scared and may be dragging a leash. He has seizures and needs his medication. If you see him please call the number immediately with his exact location. Unless stuck, do not approach, chase, call out, or follow. He will run We do not want him to run from a known location or into traffic. If you do see him, without approaching in his direction, you can try sitting on the ground sideways to him and see if he will approach you. If he leaves. Do not chase after him, call the number on the flyer immediately. Please do not post sightings on social media. We do not want to draw people to the area to look for him This will be frightening to him. We need to get his people to the area, not strangers. Please help and share this link to get the word out

As many of you are aware the Durham Volunteer Fire Company responded to an automatic fire alarm on Saturday evening in a industrial building located on Airline Drive. First arriving firefighter reported that he had heavy fire showing from the roof. At that time the Chief requested Valley Shore Emergency Communications to dispatch a working structure fire which would bring in our mutual aid fire companies. After several hours the fire was brought under control and our mutual aid was released. The fire is still under investigation and no one was injured.
