Around this time of year, many New Year’s resolutions start to lose momentum. That does not mean you have failed, it often means the goals were simply too big to tackle all at once.
One way to regain traction is to break large goals into smaller, more realistic steps. Progress does not have to be dramatic to be meaningful. Small, consistent changes add up over time.
In addition to breaking big goals into smaller, more realistic steps, here are a few other ways to stay engaged with your intentions:
• Focus on consistency rather than perfection. Showing up imperfectly is still progress.
• Revisit the “why” behind your goal to make sure it still matters to you.
• Build in accountability, whether that is a trusted person, a routine check-in, or professional support.
Therapy can be a helpful space to clarify what you actually want, identify obstacles that keep getting in the way, and create achievable goals that fit your real life. If your resolutions feel heavy or out of reach, you do not have to navigate that alone.
