Why ?:
I chose to join Águilas because as soon as I saw the flyer for the interest meeting, it stood out to me. I also love the family feel I get from other members. Águilas has connected me with other Afro-Latino individuals who also have Latino backgrounds that stem from an African diaspora. Being able to outwardly embrace what makes us both black & Latino is a very satisfying feeling when you’re surrounded by supportive people who also just want to know more and we’re all just continuously learning about one another and their culture.

Why ?: As a minority, I think it’s important to advocate not just for myself, but all minorities. It’s difficult enough to come from a diverse background or region of the world & for people to not be aware of you so it’s discouraging. I feel like it’s important for me to bring awareness because we’re all humans. Why not treat each other as such?
