His first talk is

The Three Rigid Levers of the Lower Limb

The human foot is often celebrated as a ‘masterpiece of engineering and a work of art’ (da Vinci), but we often take the other bones of the lower limb for granted. This unique presentation will explore how the body uses a number of strategies to provide the appropriate stiffness for the lower limbs to contribute to gait. The joints and soft tissues in each section work together in ways that provide both predictability and variability - but how do we manage those forces and create a body that self-designs to optimise control?

This will be, as always, a highly engaging and insightful talk and we can’t wait to see James back on stage after a hiatus in 2019.
