September is PCOS Awareness Month

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a common hormonal–metabolic condition—not “just cysts”—and it shows up differently for everyone. You’re not alone, and you deserve compassionate, evidence-based care.
What it can look like: irregular or absent periods, acne, facial/body hair, scalp hair thinning, fertility challenges, fatigue, mood changes, and signs of insulin resistance.

Why awareness matters: PCOS is linked with higher risks of metabolic problems (like type 2 diabetes), endometrial overgrowth, and mental-health challenges (anxiety/depression). Early recognition means earlier support.

Care isn’t one-size-fits-all: sleep, nutrition, movement, stress care; meds to regulate cycles/manage androgens; insulin-sensitizers; and—when trying to conceive—clinician-guided ovulation induction. Mental health care counts, too. 💛

💜 September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month

Every year, more than 100,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer — including cervical, ovarian, uterine, va**nal, and v***ar cancers.

👉 Screening guidelines you should know:

✨ Pap test: Start at age 21, every 3 years
(or every 5 years with HPV test starting at
age 30).
✨ HPV test: Often combined with Pap
starting at age 30.
✨ Pelvic exam: Every year, even if you don’t
need a Pap.
✨ Genetic testing: May be recommended if
you have a strong family history of
ovarian or breast cancer.

Early detection saves lives. Staying up to date on screenings and talking with your OB/GYN about your risk factors are powerful tools for prevention.

✨ This month, let’s raise awareness and support one another. ✨

📅 Schedule your annual exam — it could make all the difference.

✨ Mini Anatomy Moment ✨

Did you know the fallopian tubes aren’t actually attached to the ovaries? Instead, tiny fingerlike projections called fimbriae help guide the egg into the tube after ovulation. 🌸

Most fertilization happens inside the fallopian tubes before the embryo travels to the uterus — making them a vital part of reproductive health.

At our practice, we believe knowledge is power when it comes to your body and wellness. 💙

Your body, your best advocate.
Breast self-exams are a simple, powerful way to stay in tune with your body and spot any changes early. While they don’t replace clinical breast exams or mammograms, they’re an important part of your monthly routine.

✨ Set a monthly reminder
👀 Look for changes in shape, size, or skin
🖐️ Feel for lumps or tenderness

And remember—early detection saves lives. We offer in-office mammography to make screening easy and accessible.

Have questions or noticed something new? Don’t wait—our team is here for you.

How often should you change your menstrual products? ⏰
Here’s a quick guide to keep things clean, comfortable, and safe:

✨ Tampons: Every 4–8 hours (never more than 8!)
✨ Pads: Every 4–6 hours, or sooner if soaked
✨ Panty liners: Daily or as needed
✨ Menstrual cups: Every 8–12 hours (but empty sooner if full)

Knowing when to switch helps protect against leaks, odor, and infections — and keeps your period care stress-free. 💪

We would love to hear any suggestions out there. Anyone a fan of period underwear??

Not all IUDs are the same — and the right choice depends on you.
✨ Hormonal IUDs (like Mirena, Kyleena, Liletta) release a small amount of progestin to prevent pregnancy and often make periods lighter or go away altogether.
✨ Copper IUDs (like Paragard) are hormone-free and can last up to 10 years — but may cause heavier periods at first.
Both are over 99% effective, reversible, and long-acting — no daily pill required. 🙌

📚 Mini Anatomy Moment
V***a vs. Va**na: What’s the Difference?
When most people say “va**na,” they often mean the v***a — but they’re not the same thing!
➡️ The v***a includes all the external parts you can see — like the l***a, cl****is, and va**nal opening.
➡️ The va**na is the internal muscular canal that connects the v***a to the cervix.
💡 Knowing the difference isn’t just technical — it’s empowering! Understanding your body helps you better advocate for your health.
