I’ll never understand why we can’t record our own ultrasounds.

That’s my baby.
My body.
My money.
And one of the most sacred moments of my life.

But some random policy says I’m not allowed to capture it?

Miss me with that.

Some of us have prayed for that heartbeat.
Some of us won’t get to hear it again.
Some of us have a partner that couldn’t be there.
Some of us are just trying to hold onto something real, because pregnancy isn’t always beautiful.

Let mothers record their ultrasounds.
Not everything needs to be controlled.
Some things just need to be remembered.

I saw two pink lines…
And instead of jumping for joy, my heart whispered, “Please, not another goodbye.”

Pregnancy after loss is complicated.
It’s holding hope in one hand and fear in the other.
It’s wanting to celebrate but being scared to even breathe too deeply.
It’s guarding your heart because you’ve felt the shattering before.

I am pregnant.
And I am grateful.
But I’m also so scared.
Because once you’ve lost a baby, a positive test doesn’t come with pure excitement anymore,
it comes with a quiet prayer: “Please stay.”

People always say it's normal for a baby to be attached to their mom. But the moment a toddler clings to her, suddenly people start calling them spoiled.

Here’s the truth.

That toddler isn’t spoiled. They feel safe. They trust her. She’s their anchor in a world that feels big and unpredictable.

Toddlers don’t have many ways to feel powerful or in control, so they cling to what feels steady. That’s not something to correct. That’s something to honor.

If your child only wants you, it’s not a failure on your part. It’s proof that you’ve created a space where they feel most secure.

And that’s a beautiful thing.

The placenta has extraordinary powers and potential to heal and re-energize your body following birth.
Some of the hormones and nutrients found in the placenta include:

🌼Cortisone: Combats stress and unlocks energy stores. Promotes healing and reduces inflammation and swelling.
🌼Interferon: Stimulates the immune system to protect and fight against infections.
🌼Corticotropin (CRH): Increasing your CRH will help prevent postnatal depression after birth.
🌼Oxytocin: It helps with pain and bonding as it is produced during breastfeeding to facilitate the bonding of mother and infant.
🌼Gamma globulin: It’s an immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections.
🌼Oestrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone: These hormones help with developing mammary glands in preparation for lactation and stabilization of post-birth uterine cramping.
🌼Placental Opioid-Enhancing Factor (POEF): Stimulates the production of your body’s natural opioids, including endorphins, reduces pain, and increases well-being.
🌼Hemoglobin: Replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition.
🌼Prolactin: Promotes and increases lactation.
🌼Human Placental Lactogen (HPL): Stimulates mammary gland function and milk production and regulates maternal glucose, protein, and fat levels.
🌼Prostaglandins: Anti-inflammatory and helps uterus return to its pre-pregnancy size.
🌼Immunoglobulin: It is an antibody that helps the immune system.
🌼Thyroid Stimulating Hormone: Regulates the thyroid gland and increases energy. It also helps with recovery from stressful events.
🌼 Iron: It increases energy, and decreases fatigue and depression. Iron restocks maternal iron stores to combat anemia.
🌼Urokinase Inhibiting Factor and Factor XIII: Stops bleeding and enhances wound healing.
🌼Vitamin B6: It protects the immune system. It has positive effects on metabolism, hormone control, emotional disorders and skin conditions.
🌼Vitamin E: It protects skin cells from damage, acting as a natural anti-aging nutrient within your body.

It’s absolutely fascinating the way our bodies know just what to do! ❤️

・・・
I always love taking photos of babies cords, they absolutely fascinate me. They come in different shapes, lengths and widths. Sometimes they are tied in knots, sometimes they are just tied around the babies body or neck.

This beautiful cord surprised me as I’ve never seen such an obvious difference in colour of the two arteries and the vein.

The vein carries oxygenated blood and nutrients to the baby from the placenta. You can see it here as the bigger vessel that looks blue. The two arteries carry the deoxygenated blood and waste from the baby back to the placenta, you can see those here as the two red vessels.

Did you look at your baby/s umbilical cords? Do you remember anything about them?

How much bleeding is too much after a baby?
The left is a small amount of blood that you may see between bathroom trips after a few days postpartum. The right is a fully saturated pad.

The general rule of thumb is 1 pad or more saturated in an hour is too much. You should go to the hospital if this is happening to you.

Mind you, soaking one pad may happen if you have been sitting for a while and you stand up with a gush or a clot that comes out. Though these should not be enormous clots (about the size of a quarter). They should stop after changing position and you should not continue to “gush”.

What benefits come from consuming the placenta?

Endorphins are natural pain relievers; they counter stress by flooding the body with a profound sense of well-being.

These compounds biochemically orient the mind to a positive and energized perspective, and the placenta is saturated with them!

There are so many benefits from endorphins which are compounded by placental opioids—psychoactive chemicals more powerful than morphine in their pharmacological effects. These properties decrease maternal postpartum pain enabling therapeutic rest and allowing the mother to focus on infant bonding and breastfeeding.

Pain from birth injuries can be significant immediately after birth and in that critical infant bonding period.

Placental consumption of opioids quickly dissolves this distraction, so the mother can focus on establishing a loving connection with her baby.

There are also minerals, trace elements, vitamins, iron and selenium, the hormones oxytocin, prostaglandin, prolactin, and human placental lactagon (hpl), progesterone, serotonin, corticotropin-releasing hormone, and thyroid-releasing hormone (trh), thyroxine, plus vitamin b6, stem cells and growth factors, indoleamines, and lastly, opioids/ placental opioid-enhancing factor (poef).
