A new study suggests eating more antioxidant-rich foods may lower cognitive decline risk by 80%.

Participants who ate the most foods rich in vitamins, magnesium, zinc and selenium had the best outcomes.

Nuts, leafy greens, berries, whole grains and more plant-based foods are great sources of antioxidants.

New research finds that antioxidant-rich foods may protect against cognitive decline, while drinking alcohol may increase your risk of impairment.

Do cholesterol levels in your blood affect your risk of heart disease?

Maybe not nearly as much as we've been told.

"The international team of seventeen experts identified considerable flaws in three recent reviews on the subject, and presented substantial evidence showing that total and LDL-cholesterol levels are not indicative of CVD risk. Specifically, the authors noted that:

- Total cholesterol levels are generally NOT associated with atherosclerosis severity
- Total cholesterol levels are generally NOT predictive of CVD risk
- In many studies, LDL-cholesterol levels are NOT associated with atherosclerosis
- A large study showed that individuals who experienced a heart attack generally had lower LDL-cholesterol levels
- Among adults over 60 years old, those with higher LDL-cholesterol levels generally live longer
- Among those with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), few individuals die prematurely
- There is no difference in LDL-cholesterol levels among individuals with FH who have CVD and those who don’t"

For some people, cilantro tastes like soap due to a genetic variation in their olfactory receptors that makes them particularly sensitive to aldehydes, compounds found in both cilantro and soap.

This genetic trait is more common in people of European descent. Some individuals find the soapy taste so strong that they avoid cilantro altogether.

I personally love cilantro 🌿 !

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a recurring and long-term (chronic) condition that affects your digestive tract. IBD causes inflammation of the stomach, small intestine, and colon.

IBD is not to be confused with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) which may have some similar symptoms, but does not cause damage to the digestive tract.

IBD is a progressive disease that can become worse over time and cause other damage if not properly diagnosed and treated.

IBD is an umbrella term that includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Good news for the weekend warriors.

Researchers from Massachusetts General analyzed health information on over 500,000 people.

The findings showed that concentrating physical activity into one or two days of the week may be as effective at reducing the risk of disease as spreading out physical activity over the week—and that held true for more than 200 diseases. Compared to the inactive group, the most significant associations between exercise and reduced disease risk were for circulatory, metabolic and digestive conditions.

Weekend warriors, you’re in luck. If you have a tough time exercising most days of the week, you’ll still reap the benefits of exercise.
