📣 Important info for lactating parents, their loved ones, and their care team. 🗣

There are so many medications that you *can* take while nursing that you couldn’t during pregnancy. Please check LactMed before not taking needed medication or weaning before you’re ready.

Being a new mom can be stressful. On top of caring for your newborn, you need to heal physically and emotionally from pregnancy and labor. Sometimes you need medication to feel better. But for women who breastfeed, how do you know which medications are safe for your baby? We talked to UNC maternal-f...

All. of. this. 💗 Healing, rebalancing, growing into your new normal takes *time.* So much happens in the condensed period of the first six weeks, but our bodies (let alone the entirety of who we are) take at least a year to settle in. We will never be the same — and however you feel about that is okay. Honor your feelings even as they change often, conflict, and confound. Above all, be gentle with yourself. ✨

Find your people — the ones who show up, listen, and are willing & able to help the way you need help. You are worthy of love and care. Every day. 🌞

Thanks to for the following words and above image.

Postpartum. It is not a small space of time that exists after you have the baby. It is not a disease or mental illness that some women get from giving birth. It is not a stop on your journey into motherhood. Postpartum is the destination.
-
Postpartum is what you are if you’ve had a baby. You will always be postpartum. This word is shrunk down, misunderstood, shoved to the side. We want to narrow down this word, treat it as if it is something to get through, go around, deal with and move on.
-
Own it. Own that you have changed. Own that you now have a life that you will continue to care for as long as your heart is beating.
-
Yes, an important postpartum period is right after birth.
It is when you have stepped through a doorway into a space you have never been before and you are expected to be in charge, to have all the answers. But that postpartum period doesn’t end just because breastfeeding has been established or you’ve gone back to work or your pre-pregnancy jeans fit again. Postpartum is forever.
-
There will quickly come a day where people will tell you the postpartum period has ended. That now you go back to regular life. They’ll replace postpartum with motherhood and tell you to deal with it. Deal with the changes, the difficulties, the lack of understanding and empathy and all around kindness because you had that baby years ago so what the hell is your problem?!
-
But mama, you’re not the problem. Society’s lack of understanding that postpartum just doesn’t go away is the problem. That a person can deal with postpartum issues for years.
-
Never stop checking in with your mental health, your physical health, your emotional health. Never stop reaching out for help, for guidance, for information. Never stop caring for yourself. Postpartum matters and so do you.

Happy Friday! It’s been a long week around here, and I’m feeling it today. I’d like to invite you to join me in a small self-care practice today. 💓 Notice pauses in your day, and take the opportunity to breathe deeply. Perhaps when you go to get a drink of water, before you start the next task, or when you are sitting in traffic. If you can do so safely, close your eyes as you take three deep breaths that make your belly rise and fall. Go as slowly as you can without strain. I hope you notice that you feel a little lighter or more at ease afterwards. Comment below if you’d like to share your experience!

We do, indeed, need to talk about it. The early days of new parenthood can be pretty intense with all the things you’re trying to learn and do on so little sleep. And sometimes parents need the support of mental health pros who specialize in postpartum mood care. If this article resonates, please reach out to someone you trust. You are not alone. You are not weak or a bad parent.

You deserve to feel better. 💜

Postpartum rage can be quite unsettling for women struggling with it
