4 Things you MUST include in your morning routine

• The first key to a healthy morning routine actually starts the night before with healthy sleep. Most adults require 7-9 hours of QUALITY sleep.
• Hydration early in the morning is SO important. I know many of us want to caffeinate first thing, but it’s important to give your body at least 30-60 minutes so that your cortisol levels can return to normal.
• Eating breakfast is essential because it kickstarts your metabolism, supports stable blood sugar levels, and gives you the energy and focus to tackle the day ahead.
• Starting your day with meditation fosters calm, focus, and emotional balance, setting a positive tone for the rest of your day.

Did you know that Seasonal Affective Disorder (sometimes colloquially referred to as seasonal depression) can get worse with age? Here are some great ways to help keep the winter blues at bay!

• First and foremost, if you or a loved one are experiencing feelings of depression, please seek out the advice of a medical professional!
• Spend time outdoors or near a window to soak up natural light. Consider a light therapy box if sunshine is scarce.
• Reduce stress and lift your mood with calming practices like meditation or deep breathing.
• Regular exercise, even gentle movements like walking or stretching, can boost energy and improve mental health.
• Eat nutrient-rich foods, including those high in Vitamin D, to support your overall well-being.
• Stay socially engaged with loved ones or community groups to avoid feelings of isolation.

Let’s prioritize wellness and embrace a brighter, healthier winter! 🌟 Which of these tips will you add to your routine? Share your favorite ways to stay positive in the comments!

We all get that urge to hibernate in the winter, but it’s important to stay active! ❄️💪 Here are 6 ways to keep your body and mind moving this season:

🏠 Try indoor exercises: Activities like yoga or resistance training help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance—all essential for staying active and preventing injuries. Plus, they’re easy to do from the comfort of your home, no matter the weather.
Combine movement with mental challenges: Exercises like dance routines, tai chi, or walking while solving puzzles stimulate both your brain and body. These activities enhance coordination, memory, and focus, which are vital for overall cognitive health.
🎨 Get creative with hobbies: Painting, knitting, or crafting keeps your hands and mind busy while reducing stress. Creative activities also improve mental agility and provide a sense of accomplishment.
🚶‍♀️ Take refreshing winter walks: Walking outdoors provides fresh air, natural light, and physical exercise. It boosts your mood, supports cardiovascular health, and helps regulate your sleep patterns. Just remember to layer up and stay safe!
📚 Learn something new: Taking up a class, learning a language, or trying memory games challenges your brain and promotes neuroplasticity. It’s a great way to stay sharp and curious about the world.
💬 Volunteer or socialize: Connecting with others through community activities or volunteering combats loneliness and strengthens emotional well-being. Building relationships also provides mental stimulation and a sense of purpose.

Embrace the season, and keep moving, learning, and connecting. Which of these will you try first? Let us know in the comments! 👇

In the gym business we call those who run to the gym hard in January “resolutionists”.
As a geeky fitness coach, I ask those “resolutionists” to plan longer term rather than joining the first gym that offers “New Year Specials.”

Growing up without fancy systems, I personally believe that an individual should write their goals out by hand in a planner or journal and work with a health coach to design their fitness goals. I'm a huge believer in licensed professionals. You don't try to repair your own car or re-shingle your roof, right? The same goes for health & wellness. Ready to start working on your fitness goals with a licensed & trained professional? Visit brainbodybizhealth.com to get started.
