Pilates isn’t just for adults ✨
Kids can do Pilates too!

It’s a fun way to build strength, coordination, body awareness, and confidence—all while moving and playing. We love helping young movers develop healthy movement habits early that support them in sports, dance, and everyday life.

At IOBT, we offer both 25-minute and 50-minute private lessons to accommodate your young mover’s attention span and individual needs. Because strong foundations start young 💜

March Matness is back and bigger than ever!

We’re celebrating all month long with mat classes every single day in March. This is the perfect opportunity to try mat if you’ve never taken a class before, or to come back to your practice if it’s been a while. Mat Pilates is accessible, challenging, and a powerful way to build strength, mobility, and connection to your body.

✨ Here’s how it works:
Every mat class you attend in March = 1 entry into our March Matness drawing. At the end of the month, we’ll choose one winner to receive a 10-class Mat Package.

You can track your classes on our in-studio attendance board (yes, there will be fun rainbow stickers 🌈). The more classes you take, the more chances you have to win!

All March Matness classes are now live in MBO.
Sign up, stay consistent, and let’s move together all month long 💫

Happy Black History Month! 🖤

We’re honored to highlight Danica Kalemdaroglu — a Pilates mentor, educator, and fellow graduate from the Advanced Teacher Training program at , Boulder. This shared lineage is especially meaningful to us, as it’s the same comprehensive training program we proudly offer here at IOBT.

With over 25 years as a movement educator, Danica uses Pilates and complementary methodologies to serve diverse populations, including individuals navigating movement challenges. She is the owner of Richmond, a premier training center in Virginia focused on restorative Pilates for all bodies.

Danica is also the creator of The Somaphyx®️ Pilates Method, a comprehensive teacher training and mentorship program rooted in classical Pilates and individualized movement education.

In addition to her work as a practitioner and teacher trainer, Danica serves as a professor of anatomy and kinesiology at Old Dominion University, where she supports the next generation of movement professionals. Her experience spans all ages—from creative movement for children to fostering healthy movement habits for older adults.

She holds an MFA from the University of Colorado and a BA from Goucher College in dance, choreography, and somatics—bringing a rich, interdisciplinary and holistic perspective to her work.

✨ We love how Danica expands the classical Pilates repertoire to honor individuality, empower diverse communities, and support the next generation of teachers.

✨ Instructor Feature: Ashley Smitherman (she/her) ✨

We’re celebrating the experience, warmth, versatility, and strength Ashley brings to the IOBT community 💜

🌀At IOBT since:
Ashley has been teaching at InsideOut since late 2008—over 15 years of dedication to movement and mindful teaching.

🩵Background & specialties:
I am a proud Tar Heel with a degree in journalism from UNC Chapel Hill. I worked in PR and advertising for about 10 years before starting the teacher training program at InsideOut. I discovered that the corporate world was not for me and fell in love with teaching Pilates. I started doing that part-time once we started our family. I completed the advanced training program at InsideOut in the spring of 2009 and have been teaching ever since. Since then, I’ve done continuing education training with , , , , , and others.

💪🏼What she loves most:
I love the combination of teaching an advanced flow class to helping people rehabilitate coming back from injuries or surgeries. It is 100% true that pilates is for everyone.

⚾️ Outside the studio:
I am a busy mom to two teenage boys and spend most of my time outside of InsideOut carting them around to various activities which includes lots of time on a baseball field! I also make time for own exercise which includes pilates, running and strength training. I love traveling, long walks outside, coffee, girls’ trips and date nights with my husband, Bryan. ☕️ ☀️ 🍸

We’re so grateful for Ashley’s experience, adaptability, and care for every body she teaches ✨

Happy Black History Month!

We’re honoring the educators who are reshaping Pilates both in practice and representation.

🧘🏾‍♀️Alexa Idama () believes that every body is unique and deserves movement that truly works for them. She’s passionate about helping others discover the power of Pilates and is deeply committed to welcoming more people — especially those who have been historically underrepresented in the industry.

✨ What we love: Alexa created her own Pilates poster featuring herself as the model performing Classical Reformer exercises — because seeing yourself reflected in the work changes who feels invited in.

The poster is available for purchase at peachtreepilates.com/store/p/reformer-poster

🍑 Owner of .Pilates: a Classical Pilates studio in Chamblee, GA

💪🏾 Co-Founder of Teacher Training Program

Thank you, Alexa, for shaping the future of Classical Pilates!

✨ Staff Feature: Toby Matthews (he/him) ✨
Rolfing® Structural Integration

We’re spotlighting the depth, curiosity, and care Toby brings to IOBT 💜

🌀At IOBT for:
Two decades—a true cornerstone of our community.

🧠 Training & highlights:
Doing trainings with Deborah is the best. Our times working with Hubert Godard near Vancouver and in New Hampshire were especially transformative to my work.

💡 What he loves most:
I love when the lightbulb goes off for someone whether it’s how they are breathing or talking to themselves about their bodies or how they move through the world. When someone realizes there are other options and how to cue those possibilities for themselves that is the best.

🌱 Outside the studio:
My garden (native plants and Japanese maples especially). Running. Birding. Reading. Duke Hoops. Democracy and civil rights. Podcasts about all of the above.

We’re grateful for Toby’s thoughtful presence and the way he helps people discover new ways of being in their bodies ✨

Rolfing® Structural Integration is a collaborative, hands-on process that begins with a structural and movement assessment, or “body reading.” Toby works with connective tissue while guiding gentle movement and dialogue to release habitual tension and improve ease of movement. Sessions are client-led in intensity and focus on sustainable change through awareness, breath, and comfort—not force.

Happy Black History Month! 🖤
We’re dispelling the myth that because Pilates was created by a German man named Joe, it’s only for white bodies.

Did you know that one of the Pilates “Elders” taught directly by Joseph Pilates was a Black woman—Kathy Grant? Kathy was a first-generation Pilates teacher, learning Contrology from Joe himself, and she went on to leave an extraordinary legacy spanning more than 50 years.

Beyond Pilates, Kathy was a celebrated dancer and arts administrator. Her work included performing with legends like Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Arthur Mitchell, and Donald McKayle; serving as Executive Director of the historic Dance Theatre of Harlem; and teaching Pilates at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Kathy Grant’s impact lives on through the many teachers she mentored and the lineage she helped shape. For those interested in diving deeper into her work, Cara Reeser’s Kathy Grant Heritage Training preserves and honors Kathy’s teaching for future generations.

Just because Kathy was the first doesn’t mean she was the only.
Tag your favorite Black Pilates instructors and let’s celebrate how diverse Pilates truly is 🖤

✨ Instructor Feature: Kim Liên (she/her) ✨

We’re celebrating the incredible depth, creativity, and heart that Kim Liên brings to IOBT 💙

🌀 At IOBT since:
May 2026 marks 17 years (!!) of Kim Liên being part of our community.

🧠 Background & specialties:
Something many IOBT clients don’t know about me is that I started out as a massage therapist and I also taught in a comprehensive massage therapy program. I have a teaching background, so I am at heart an educator. I started at IOBT as an Anatomy Trains Structural Integrator and took the Intermediate Pilates Teacher Training when it was brand new to program line up. I eventually began to move away from doing myofascial manipulation to teaching more movement and now I teach movement with a lot of hands on guidance. I’m also a 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher and a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator. My focus is to help clients feel movement while they do movement and to become more present, centered, grounded, and aligned.

✨ What she loves most:
I think what I love most about my job is the ability to use my imagination :) Coming up with absurd but relatable imagery to help clients with movement is so much fun. This leads to my next favorite thing is to see a client overcome whatever is holding them back to move up to another level class.

🧶 Outside the studio:
Fiber art. I knit, spin yarn, weave, and do various types of needlework. Also, I love to be outdoors when I can and the ocean is one of my favorite places to reset. 🌊

We’re so grateful for the wisdom, creativity, and care Kim Liên shares with our community ✨
