In celebration of , we’re shouting out a rock star on our team – Senior Medical Director Ihab Abdel-Fattah, M.D., Ph.D.!

Ihab is a board-certified cardio-thoracic surgeon with almost 20 years of clinical practice and research experience. His respiratory expertise spans all stages of clinical drug and medical device development, from proof of concept through market support. Ihab’s areas of special interest include asthma and emphysema, cystic fibrosis, COPD, lung transplantation and cancers and pulmonary hypertension. He is the joint inventor and lead clinical developer of a US patented and FDA approved portable EVLP device used in lung transplantation worldwide.

Our recently helped support the International FOXP1 Foundation's Family Gathering and Conference 2023 – an event organized by one of our former team members, Karl Whitney, that aims to further the Foundation's mission of empowering and backing families and individuals with FOXP1 syndrome. Here's a look into Karl's event experience:

"This was by far the largest gathering of the FOXP1 community to date anywhere in the world, attracting about 150 people. FOXP1 syndrome is ultra-rare, and the opportunity to get together with individuals experiencing the same situation is truly invaluable."

“The holy grail in pediatric asthma research is to find an intervention that could prevent allergic diseases and asthma – that could stop the “atopic march” in its tracks. We are working on the cutting edge of research delving into the molecular pathways of immunopathogenesis and how exposures during pregnancy and early life may set certain children up for having a high risk of allergic disease and asthma. As we learn more about how the immune system reacts to various exposures and stimuli, we get closer to identifying the treatments or interventions that could prevent disease progression.”

What never fails to bring a smile to your face?

I’m always smiling when I’m outside. I love feeling the sunshine on my face. I enjoy most outdoor activities and recently started hiking the Ice Age Trail – a 1,000-mile trail from northwest to southeast Wisconsin. I’ve got about 800 miles to go!

Tell us a random fact about yourself.

I am super adventurous and love trying new things that challenge me. I decided to start snowboarding this year and love it, despite multiple injuries and bruises.

If you could only keep three apps on your smartphone, what would they be?

I would keep iMessage, Chrome and Weather.

We’re kicking off the week by spotlighting one of the awesome members of our respiratory team, Principal Clinical Research Associate Sergio Fuentez!

Sergio has more than 16 years of clinical research experience, including more than five years of experience with pulmonary indications focused on COPD and asthma. He served as a clinical research associate on multiple phase two and phase three trials that went on to FDA approval and conducted monitoring visits across the country. Sergio consistently delivers high quality data that is reviewed on time and in accordance with a project's timeline. He always ensures that multiple database locks are met by participating in site audit preparations. Keep up the great work, Sergio!
