If you only had 90 minutes a week to build real strength after 40, here is exactly what I would do.
First, get rid of the light weights. If you are doing 20 reps with a weight that barely challenges you because you are afraid of bulking up, stop. You will never bulk up unless you choose to.
What those light weights are doing is letting your muscle and your bones get weaker every single week.
Second, work with a trainer who actually understands strength training.
Building real muscle after 40 is a skill. You need someone who has done it hundreds of times to show you how.
