This year’s campaign, “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” encourages everyone to stand with science by engaging with evidence, facts, and science-based guidance to protect health. These themes have been at the core of who we are at MED-EL since our founding.

Because of this, we are constantly researching new advancements in hearing health, and how those can be best applied. At the end of last year, we announced our historic FDA approval for cochlear implantation in children as young as 7 months.

This year’s Ideasforears had some fierce competition!

Our third runner-up, Kathryn, invented a robotic service dog that can alert people who are hard of hearing when the doorbell or phone rings. Plus, for those under 18 or individuals who are hypoallergenic, this provides access to the support of a service dog in a new way!

Big shoutout to otolaryngologist and otology fellow Dr. Mikayla Huestis and her fellowship director, neurotologist Dr. Michael Seidman at AdventHealth Celebration, for being the first in the Orlando area to implant FLEX34!

FLEX34 is currently the longest electrode array available, designed to bring those with larger cochleas closer to natural hearing.
