Anthony lost his hearing after meningitis around his first birthday in the summer of 2020 – but that was only the beginning of his journey. 💙

In those early, uncertain days, his family turned to the Duke Children's audiology team, who knew just how much those first years matter for a child’s voice, their words, their connection to the world. They recommended a cochlear implant. Everything moved quickly from there. In just a few short months, Anthony went from diagnosis to hearing again. By the end of that same summer, he was already finding his voice.

Today, Anthony hears with mild hearing loss and is learning to communicate in both spoken and sign language – embracing every way to connect. He’s finishing up 1st grade with incredible growth in reading and math, a reflection of his determination and bright spirit. And at heart, he’s still a little boy who loves being outside and looking up to his big brother. 🌿

He continues speech therapy close to home, and his Duke care team is still there alongside him, cheering him on every step of the way.

✨ Because early intervention doesn’t just change outcomes—it changes lives.

We rolled out the red carpet for our patients, who had a super star experience—full of big smiles, lots of laughs, and awesome swag thanks to our partners at Regal Cinemas. Talk about a level-up! 🎮

May the 4th be with you! ✨
We recently celebrated everyone’s favorite galaxy far, far away with a special May 4th party at the hospital—complete with Star Wars characters, Jedi training, and plenty of adventure. Our patients had a blast with inflatable lightsabers and hands-on galaxy slime fun! ⚔️🌌

The Force was definitely strong with this one. 💫 Huge thanks to everyone who helped make the day so special!
