From DPR: DPR is hosting a Back to School Bash at Campus Hills Recreation Center on Saturday, August 22. Originally, this would have been a fun family event with games, activities, resources, and a school supply giveaway. The event has been modified to a drive-thru giveaway of school supplies and community resources.

We could use your support to make this event a huge success! Here are a few ways you can help:

Share any suggestions of local business that might make a donation
Let us know if there’s a community organization that might want to share resources/information at this event
Make a personal donation of school supplies. Contact Jared Hardin (Jared.Hardin@durhamnc.gov) for more information
Ask community groups you’re involved with if they can coordinate a group collection

The new neighborhood listserv will be on Google Groups and can be found by searching Google Groups for "Colonial Village Durham" or following this link: https://groups.google.com/d/forum/colonial-village-durham

I am attempting to move folks emails over from the old listserv, but it will only allow me to add 100 a day (We had 500 subscribers) so please pardon the mess if it takes a few days to get everyone added. In the meantime, I will post how to subscribe yourself in the comments.

Hello everyone,
Verizon, which owns Yahoo, is ending our listserv at the end of October, on the 28th.
Our Board members are thinking of migrating our Yahoo listserv members to Google, which offers its listserv service for free. However, their service does not allow us to post any attachments (pictures, files, etc).
The alternative would be to remain ONLY on Nextdoor.
What would you prefer?

Do you or someone you know have questions about some of the recent violent crimes in N. Durham. Join us Monday January 14th 6pm-8pm 2107 Hillandale Rd. at Partners Against Crime (PAC 2) to hear reports from the county Sheriff, and N. Durham Police on how they are managing the crimes in our area.. As a citizen your presence and voice is needed.

Make plans to join us at the MakerLab @ Northgate on Thursday, January 24th for a special program covering the basics of advance care planning. Learn about this important topic, including why it's important to think about our healthcare preferences BEFORE it matters, with whom we should discuss our wishes, and how to talk about these issues.

With hospice educator Betsy Barton as our guide, we will learn about the Five Wishes advance directive form, how to choose a healthcare proxy to advocate for us, and what sorts of things we need to discuss with our proxy before we experience an illness.

Good news! Our neighborhood school will not be taken over by a private charter school company:

According to NCISD superintendent Eric Hall, Glenn Elementary is no longer on the list of schools to be taken over or shut down.

A black and white pit mix was in my fenced yard when I arrived home. I’m more concerned with finding her owner than figuring out how she got in my yard! She has an olive green harness but no tags.
