Frost predicted tonight! Harvested the last couple of tomatoes on the volunteer tomato plant, picked a ton of spearmint and chocolate mint – I tried to clean as much out of the beds as possible – and dried several trays of spearmint. Some of the sunchokes were beaten down by the wind and rain so they were captured as well. Still picking apples and pears, and trying to figure out what to do with all this bounty! A good problem to have!

It’s pear time! Yesterday we made apple-pear butter and a pear crumble, and dehydrated 8 trays of pears. Today we’re thinking pear chutney and a butternut squash pear soup. What are your favorite pear recipes?

Enjoy our latest news!

Fall is definitely in the air! I’m really enjoying the fresh mornings and cooler nights, while still having warm sunny days! The figs and berries are done, but the pears and apples are ready- and delicious! Rosie and Wilbert enjoyed a delicious piggy pear party the other day!

Rosie and Wilbert have been here a month today. So far they’ve each escaped the pen twice, we’ve expanded their pen, they’ve cleared most of the grass, and today the water park opened. They enjoy their belly rubs and treat balls. What an adventure!

The future of the Duvall Food Forest is uncertain. After 5 years of tending, organizing, gathering, and dreaming, changes are on the horizon. I'm realizing I do not have the capacity to continue leading this alone. The lease is up for renewal, and I am considering not renewing it. This space was always meant to be collaborative, and so, I'm reaching out to see what it would look like to formalize that. Do you feel called to help carry the vision? I would love to hear from you.
