Happy Summer Solstice!
This time of year (especially in the North!) we are treated to bright early mornings and long lingering days. Around my house we are all SO excited to be done with school for the summer and the lushness and pervasiveness of the garden and the green is at its peak.
To me it seems impossible that we are nearly halfway through this year and I want to stand still for a moment and take stock, breathe deeply, soak up the beauty and the abundance of the natural world, and recalibrate a bit. It's a time to let the light shine in and illuminate the cobwebs and the dusty spots, rinse them all off with a swim in the frigid river and then lie down in the warm sand. It's a time to feed our vitality, and gratitude with extra time spent outside and unplugged.
I love these touchstone moments - a reminder to be present and check in. An opportunity to slow down and witness the turning of the seasons. The chance to ask, what IS important to me? How DO I want to spend my time here on earth (even just for an hour or so)? What will I focus on in this new season? What am I growing? Do I even want to be growing that??
As I feel our world become ever more challenged by divisiveness, uncertainty, despair, and suffering, I want to refresh my spirit as often as I can, and commit over and over to showing up as best I can as a helpful person. This summer solstice I want to let the sun, the bumbles, and all the growing green things work their potent magic on my depleted places. However long it lasts, I know I can always drop back in to present time, go outside, touch some grass, breathe, and return back to myself.
I'm pretty sure it'll be grey, cool, and rainy this Summer Solstice, but join me if you can, wherever you are, with a deep breath, gratitude, and the intention to begin again, and again refreshed, and vital!
Love,
Sara
