Om Shanti Om.
Shanti means peace, and Shantinivas means “a house of peace,”
a name my grandfather once gave my mom’s childhood home.

With so much flooding and uncertainty in our local community tonight,
I found myself returning to a conversation I’ve been having with one of my sons:
we don’t have to outsource our steadiness to anyone else.
Even when people around us feel ungrounded or overwhelmed,
we don’t have to fix their energy to find our own center.
We can stay present and alert to local safety concerns,
and still remain steady within ourselves.

We can become our own Shantinivas, our own house of peace.

Day 5: Choose Joy First
It’s okay if your holiday to-do list isn’t checked off yet.
It’s okay if your tree is up but the bins of ornaments are still untouched.
It’s okay if the house is sitting somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Today’s practice is simple:
Choose one small thing that brings you joy.
Something that makes you smile, laugh, or feel that warm spark in your chest.
Do that first.
Then return to what’s required.

Joy softens the edges.
Joy shifts the whole nervous system.
Joy makes the rest feel lighter.

Today I wrapped up the fourth and final class of my Four Soul Intentions (Deepak Chopra) series, and my heart feels full.

There’s something about the quiet winter energy - softer, slower, more reflective, that makes completion feel extra meaningful. I felt so much gratitude for the experience we shared and for the growth that unfolded.

Sometimes joy looks like the simplest thing:
a meal that grounds you, fuels you, and feels good in your body.

Today’s practice is to choose one high-protein, nourishing meal that supports your energy — nothing complicated, nothing fancy.
