This may seem too simple but outdoor play is where lifelong skills are built.

At EXPLORE, we know that outdoor play isn’t a break from learning.

It is the learning. Kids have the space and time to learn about themselves, about other children and about their imagination.

It builds skills that support autonomy in everyday life; from enhancing fine motor strength to open a bag of pretzels to the dynamic balance required for athletic performance

We’re building confident, capable kids—one adventure at a time 🌲

Forest Adventure Groups are not an extra activity to add to your to-do list.

They are an investment in your child’s mental health, physical development, emotional resilience, and confidence.

Kids need the practice now more than ever before to build these skills.

Skill building takes time, practice and repetition. It does not happen overnight, and it does not happen with just maturity. It happens through practice and through play.

EXPLORE Pediatric Therapy is excited to welcome families to our one-of-a-kind nature-based summer camp for the 5th summer in a row!

With camp days led by a team of trained pediatric specialists, we offer an enriching outdoor experience designed to help every child thrive.

Camp is 100% outdoors, supporting connection to nature and to peers through exploration, play, and shared adventure.

All games and activities are thoughtfully adapted so every child can participate, and our child-led, free-play philosophy allows kids to build confidence, creativity, and friendships at their own pace.

Our team is well-equipped to support big feelings and unexpected challenges, and we provide guidance, visual supports, and other tools when a child benefits from extra structure.

Parents receive a daily debrief at pick-up, along with access to a shared photo album that’s updated each day.

Our mission is to bring a true, inclusive summer camp experience to children and families across the South Shore.

Registration options: link in bio, scan the QR code, or head to our website

Hold to read what parents have said about their experience with our camp in previous years! ☀️🌳🌊

Did you know that children develop the frontal lobe of their brain when they take risks?

When a child participates in healthy risk-taking, they learn about consequences. They practice trial and error. They have to figure out what went wrong and what went right. Then they adapt.

This is where strong frontal lobes are developed. If you’re wondering what the frontal lobe is responsible for… Keep reading:

Aka - Life Skills. The frontal lobe is where we spend most of our adult lives. Allow allowing a child to grow up practicing the skills needed to launch into adulthood is essential to success!

What types of healthy risk taking opportunities are you providing for your child on a regular basis?

If 2026 is the year you want to prioritize outside time, we are sharing 3 tips to help you achieve your goals 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣

Tip 1- Invest in good gear (for child and adult!) If you are cold, wet or uncomfortable you will not want to spend longer chunks of time outside. We love the Outdoor School Shop. Use code EXPLORE for 10% off! 🧥🧤🥾

Tip 2- Head to and download one of their beautiful hour tracking prints. Every time you come in after an outdoor adventure, you can color and track how many hours you’ve been outside! It’s a fun and motivating process 🖍️

Tip 3 - Invite a friend to join you! We are social beings; if you’re wanting to help your child complain less and explore more, invite a friend. Kids are wired to complain more to their parents and families. It’s neuroscience. But, if you enlist a friend, you are essentially removing yourself from needing to be the go to person 🤗

How do you put into words the importance of this community? How can you capture the value we place on the people who trust us, believe in us, support us and refer their friends to us?

2025 was another year of growth.

We all grew. As specialists, leaders, friends, parents. We are out there showing up every day, (in all types of weather), together…and it’s all for the kids. Our desire to be better role models, and to show children just how capable they are. It’s the most important work 💚

Many people have come into my life these past 4 years that feel like they were meant to be there. Life brought us together for a powerful purpose— to advocate for higher standards for our children

Thank you from the bottom of my heart and all of us at EXPLORE Pediatric Therapy! We can’t wait to hit the ground running next week for another value packed year ahead

When we ask parents what their priorities are for their child they often mention things like building leadership, empathy and responsibility.

And we agree! Finding opportunities to foster these life skills takes time, effort and intention.

Working on this type of skill building includes creating learning environments that allow a child to get as many repetitions in throughout all of childhood.

Pictured here is an example to get your parent brain wheels turning. ⚙️ Big brother is teaching little brother how to tie his shoes

If you have multi aged siblings at home, how can you help them learn from one another?

Can you build up your older children by asking them to teach their younger sibling something meaningful?

Decades of developmental and educational research affirm that peer interaction — including children teaching or collaborating — enhances emotional, social, and academic outcomes above solitary learning! How exciting!

Meet, EXPLORE's, Sarah McDemus 🌲

Sarah brings a lifelong love of the outdoors into everything she does. Growing up camping and exploring nature in Michigan, she built a deep connection to the natural world that continues to shape her work today.

With experience spanning wilderness therapy, adventure programs, residential youth care, and 15 years as a Science Special Education teacher at South Shore High School in Hingham, Sarah is passionate about helping children discover their strengths and build confidence.

At EXPLORE Pediatric Therapy, Sarah finds joy in the simplest moments playing in the woods, splashing through mud puddles, and watching children thrive as they learn through nature-based experiences. She truly believes the outdoors is one of the most powerful classrooms there is.

When she’s not outside with our groups, you’ll find Sarah hiking with her family, traveling, or tending her garden.

💚 We’re grateful to have Sarah as part of the EXPLORE team.
