Happy March!
Did you know that March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month? Per the American Cancer Society (ACS), it is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in the United States. The ACS states the death rate from colorectal cancer is decreasing because of screening tests like colonoscopies. Also when colon polyps are found earlier, they can be removed easier before turning into cancer.

So who needs to be screened? Regular screening should start at age 45 per the ACS. Screenings should occur every 10 years unless you are at increased risk. People that are increased risk are those that have family history of colon cancer, history of polyps or history of inflammatory bowel disease.
