This quote is a reminder that where you begin doesn’t define where you’re capable of going. Growth, healing, and change aren’t limited by your current circumstances, they’re shaped by the choices, resilience, and hope you carry forward.

Don’t know who we are — or maybe you’ve heard our name but aren’t exactly sure what we do?

Our CEO, Jill Wiedemann-West, recently spoke at the Becker's CEO + CFO Roundtable and shared more about who People Incorporated is, the communities we serve, and the work we’re proud to do every day.

Behind the Canvas: Frida Kahlo

Best known for her deeply personal self-portraits and symbolic imagery, Frida lived with depression, trauma, and chronic pain throughout her life. During long periods of confinement, she turned to painting as a way to process what she was experiencing — physically, emotionally, and mentally. Her art became a space where she could tell her own story, explore identity, and express pain when words felt impossible.

“I paint myself because I am so often alone.”

Frida’s story reminds us that art doesn’t have to be perfect or polished to be powerful. Creativity can be a way to release emotion, reclaim your voice, and make sense of what you’re carrying.

At People Incorporated, our Shamrock Residence provides more than just housing — it offers stability, support, and a place to rebuild.

Shamrock is a long-term residential program designed for adults living with mental health challenges who benefit from a structured, supportive environment. Residents receive individualized support, access to mental health services, and opportunities to build life skills that foster independence, confidence, and community connection.

Every day at Shamrock is centered on dignity, respect, and recovery. It’s a place where people are supported in their goals, encouraged in their growth, and reminded that they are not alone on their journey.

We’re proud of the care provided at Shamrock Residence and grateful for the staff who show up each day to make it a safe and welcoming home.

We’re launching a new series called Behind the Canvas, where we explore the lives of artists who experienced mental health struggles and how creativity became a powerful outlet for expression, healing, and survival.

Our first featured artist is Vincent van Gogh. Known for his vivid colors and emotional brushstrokes, Van Gogh lived with deep inner turmoil, often feeling isolated and misunderstood. Painting was more than art for him, it was a way to release emotion, make sense of his experiences, and hold onto purpose during difficult seasons.

If art has ever helped you cope, reflect, or feel grounded, we invite you to explore our free Artability workshops, designed to support mental health through creative expression. https://www.eventbrite.com/o/artability-people-incorporated-18672157527

When the temperatures drop below zero, it can take a toll on more than just your body, it can affect your mood, energy, and mindset too.

On days like these, gentle reminders and positive self-talk can help ground you, ease stress, and bring a little warmth back into your day. These affirmations aren’t about ignoring how hard today feels, they’re about supporting yourself through it.

Don't forget to remind yourself: you’re doing the best you can, and that’s enough.

January is a fresh start, but it doesn’t have to come with pressure or perfection. This month is a reminder that caring for your mental health can be quiet, steady, and kind. Small steps, honest check-ins, and self-compassion can go a long way as you move into the year ahead.

January is Mental Wellness Month, a time to pause, reflect, and prioritize our mental and emotional well-being as we step into a new year. After the busyness of the holidays, this month reminds us that caring for our mental health doesn’t require big resolutions; sometimes it starts with small, intentional moments of care.

Mental wellness looks different for everyone. It can mean reaching out for support, setting healthy boundaries, practicing self-compassion, or simply giving yourself permission to rest. What matters most is knowing that support is available and that you don’t have to navigate challenges alone.

At People Incorporated, we’re committed to meeting people where they are and supporting mental wellness ever.

On Thursday, January 8, we learned that Della, a longtime Artability participant, passed away after her courageous battle with cancer.

Della was a radiant spirit who filled our Artability community with warmth, creativity, and sunshine.

Her artwork reflected the joy she carried into every room, and she shared that joy generously.

We are grateful for the time we had with her and honored to share a glimpse of her light.

Our hearts are with her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

We will carry her sunshine forward.
