Congratulations to Dr. Steven Niedermeier - a Center of Excellence Physician!

As the hand surgeon for the Texas Rangers baseball club and the Dallas Stars hockey team, Dr. Steven Niedermeier knows the importance of quickly returning his patients — including those who are not professional athletes — to their lives and livelihoods after a procedure.

Switching to carpal tunnel release (CTR) with real-time ultrasound guidance and trigger finger release (TFR) using that same technology has been a game-changer for his patients. “To put it simply, my patients’ quality of life preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively is much better,” he says. “By incorporating Sonex Health’s UltraGuideCTR™ and UltraGuideTFR™ technologies into my practice, I’m offering techniques that are minimally invasive, allow patients to be wide awake during the procedure, and gets them back quickly to doing the things they love.”

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the palm of the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. The median nerve controls sensations to the palm side of the thumb and fingers, except the little finger, as well as impulses to some small muscles in the hand that allow the fingers and thumb to move. The carpal tunnel—a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand—houses the median nerve and tendons. When this tunnel becomes narrowed or when tissues surrounding the flexor tendons swell, it can lead to nerve compression, causing the characteristic symptoms of CTS.

The Power of MSK Ultrasound in Hand Surgery – Part 3
In hand surgery, where anatomy is already complex, “sono-dissection”, using ultrasound guidance can be a game-changer.

The video provided shows how ultrasound can identify a unique variation in the thenar motor branch with an ulnar take off. This is an example of how knowing an aberration prior to a surgical procedure, can be made seamless with ultrasound.

Our Story

Committed to Producing Technology that Advances and Improves Healthcare

“Refined simplicity” is the guiding principle behind Sonex Health, to drive efforts and innovations that result in elegant, effective solutions to some of the healthcare system’s most pressing needs.

Mayo Clinic physicians Darryl Barnes, MD and Jay Smith, MD and business operations expert Aaron Keenan founded Sonex Health in 2014. The three were brought together by a shared desire to create safe, effective means of treating common orthopedic conditions that would improve patient safety while decreasing procedural costs. Sonex Health, LLC has developed the SX-One MicroKnife® to treat carpal tunnel syndrome in a novel fashion, termed Micro-invasive Carpal Tunnel Release. This innovation allows carpal tunnel release, a procedure that once took place in an operating room, to be safely and effectively performed in a surgery center or office setting, resulting in rapid patient recovery, improved cosmesis, and reduced costs.

Sonex Health brings together a well-respected and experienced team of individuals who have played key roles in creating, developing, and marketing medical technologies that have positively impacted the lives of millions of patients. This team is committed to bringing their proven talent to Sonex Health, LLC, to successfully and expeditiously produce and market the new SX-One MicroKnife®.
