Since 1988 research data from Strong Heart Study participants has helped to improve heart health for 5.1 million American Indians. This study is the largest health and disease study of American Indians. Phase Seven of the study is in progress and and additional spin off studies are happening with the participants. The Strong Heart Study participants come from 13 American Indian tribes and communities in three geographic areas: an area near Phoenix, Arizona, the southwestern area of Oklahoma, and western and central North and South Dakota.

There are more than 9 million Native Americans living in the United States ❤️ 🥁 ⛰️ 🌞 🙂 🦅. The leading causes of death are cancer and then heart disease. Nearly 1 in 3 Native American and Indigenous adults are struggling with high blood pressure as well. This Native American Heritage Month, it’s urgent to check your blood pressure at your nearest community health center or pharmacy. You can also talk to a health care professional through telehealth. Get checked to stay balanced.
