Dear Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Oyate Family, please note that today, December 2, 2024, I am officially retiring from the mortuary care profession. My funeral homes in Eagle Butte and Mobridge are now closed.

I want to thank the many many Lakota families who, over the course of 38 years across the Great Lakota Nation, blessed me with the privilege to assist them during their time of personal loss. Now that this 38 year life journey has finally come to an end, I take with me a wonderful spiritual treasure chest full of human hearts, grateful and loving hearts, that honored me and trusted me with their loved ones. In a word, Thank you! No make that a big WOPILA!!

Now, it's time for this 70 year old man to prepare for my own Spirit Journey, and how I so much look forward to this time! And from the heart of our Sacred Paha Sapa, on Black Elk Peak, I wish our Heavenly Father Creator's peace and love for all! Mitakuye Oyasin! AHOOO!

Tracy Veit, age 51, of Eagle Butte, SD, entered the Spirit World on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Cheyenne River Health Care Center at Eagle Butte.

A funeral procession will start at the 4 mile at 4:00, PM, Friday, November 22, 2024, with a wake service to begin at 6:00 PM, Friday, at the CRST Bingo Hall at Eagle Butte. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 23, at the Bingo Hall. Cremation services will follow with a memorial service at a later date.

A funeral procession will begin at 4:00 PM at the 4 Mile on Thursday, November 7, 2024. A wake service will begin at 6:00 (mst), Thursday, Nov. 7, at St. John's Episcopal Church at Eagle Butte. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM (mst) Friday, November 8, at St. John's Episcopal Church. After a luncheon, burial follow at the Morgan Family Cemetery, 20 miles southwest of Eagle Butte.

Allen "Kermit" Chasing Hawk, age 60, of Eagle Butte, SD, entered the Spirit World on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Cheyenne River Health Care Center at Eagle Butte, SD.

A wake service will begin at 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the CRST Bingo Hall. A funeral will begin at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 4 at the Bingo Hall. Following a luncheon, burial will follow at St. Pius Catholic Cemetery, Red Scaffold, SD.

Kermit is survived by 3 sons, Dylan Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte, Rusty Chasing Hawk and Kermit Chasing Hawk of Sioux City, IA. Two daughters,Ember Chasing Hawk and Mandy Chasing Hawk of Wyoming. One brother and one sister, Linus Chasing Hawk and Juanita Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte.

A graveside service will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Congregational Cemetery at Bridger, SD.

Baby Joey is survived by his parents, Joseph and Bobbi Little Star of Pierre, SD. Two sisters, Jaylee Little Star and Dezire Little Star of Pierre, one brother, Athen Little Bear of McLaughlin, SD. Maternal Grand Father, Jesus Garcia of Rapid City, SD.

Lloyd Bald Eagle, age 62, of Red Scaffold, entered the Spirit World on February 3, 2023 at Rapid City, SD.

A wake service will begin at 7:00 PM, Friday, October 25,, 2024 at the Bald Eagle Ranch, Takini, SD. A Traditional Lakota Service will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 26 at the Bald Eagle Ranch, with Vernal Sitting Crow officiating. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Red Scaffold, SD.

Lloyd is survived by his children: Ricky Jackson of Rapid City and Tashina Augustine, Quebec, Canada. Six brothers: Dave Bald Eagle, Jr., Floyd Hart and Wopila Bald Eagle of Takini, Remi Bald Eagle, Arizona, Kili Bald Eagle, Charleston, SC, and Luc Francois, Texas. Dear Cheyenne River Lakota Family, here's an update on the fire mishap that occurred on early this morning here at Rooks Funeral Services at Star Nation Center:

First of, I want to sincerely thank the professionalism of the Eagle Butte Fire Department, the CRST Tribal Police on Scene, and to Mr. Norm Schuler, Sheriff of EB. Because of their quick response, the Star Nation Center for Wakan gatherings for our community was saved.

Aside from some smoke damage and some slight structural repair I believe a return to our normal funeral services will hopefully be in the next 1-2 months range. In the meantime, I do have my Rooks Funeral Home in Mobridge that can accommodate those families that would still honor us during your time of need in the community.

And to all those who offer their holy prayers and good will, I say Mitakuye Oyasin na Pilamayelo.

Trudell Iron Rope, age 56, of Timber Lake, SD, entered the Spirit World on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Timber Lake, A memorial wake service will begin at 7:00 PM, Friday, September 27, 2024 at the CRST Bingo Hall. A Cremation Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Bingo Hall, with Mother Ellen Huber officiating. A scattering of cremains ceremony will take place at a later date.

Trudell is survived by his two sons: Lonnie Iron Rope of Fargo, ND and Forest Iron Rope of Idaho Falls, ID, Two daughters, Lakoda Bronco and Nakiyah Howard of Idaho Falls, ID. Nine brothers: Rydell Iron Rope and Durell Rooks of Eagle Butte, Calvin Iron Rope of Rapid City, SD, Bert Rooks, Jr., of Hot Springs, SD, Jesse Rooks of Sioux Falls, Remo Rooks of Clinton, MO and Gerald Miller of Timber Lake, SD, Patrick Rooks, and Paul Iron Rope. Six sisters: Mary Iron Rope-Renteria of Irving, TX, Suzie Sadek of Ulysses, KS, Lloydell Iron Rope of Graham, TX, Vallen Rooks of Sioux Falls, SD., Cathy Iron Rope and Joanette Iron Rope. He’s also survived by his girlfriend, Connie Brandon.
