Big thanks to Do Something More Podcast for this opportunity

The statistics surrounding su***de in construction and other blue-collar careers are alarming. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that they have some of the highest rates of su***de among all other occupations. My guest on the podcast this week, Brice Julian, has seen some of the effects of working in these professions first-hand in his own career, and is now committed to providing mental health resources and support to the many men and women who work in blue-collar jobs.

On the episode he shares why mental health can be such a struggle in these fields, what he’s hoping to accomplish with his non-profit as he addresses those issues, and through personal stories and insights he shares how when it comes to mental health, anyone can make a difference in the life of a family member or a friend.

Brice is in the beginning stages of forming his non-profit and I’m so grateful he took the time to come on and share his experiences and expertise. I learned some things I didn’t know before and I bet you will too!

In the world of construction, we often see strength, resilience, and a determination to build. But behind the hardhats and heavy machinery lies a silent crisis that deserves our attention: su***de.

The Unseen Struggles:
Construction is a field known for its demanding physical labor and long hours. Yet, beneath the surface, many workers face unseen battles with mental health issues. The pressures of deadlines, job insecurity, and the physical toll can take a heavy toll on their mental well-being.

The Statistics Are Alarming:
The statistics surrounding su***de in construction are startling. The CDC reports that construction has one of the highest su***de rates among all occupations. This is a crisis that’s been silently affecting an industry responsible for creating the infrastructure of our society.

Breaking the Silence:
The first step to addressing this crisis is breaking the silence. It’s okay to not be okay. We must encourage open conversations about mental health, reduce the stigma surrounding seeking help, and create a supportive environment where workers can find assistance when they need it.

Support and Prevention:
There are steps we can take to support those in construction. Organizations like “Hardhats of Hope” are working tirelessly to provide resources, support networks, and educational tools to help prevent su***de in blue-collar jobs. Mental health awareness programs and support groups are essential for building a resilient and united industry.

Your Role:
As individuals, we can make a difference too. If you know someone in the construction industry, check in on them. Be a listening ear, and encourage them to seek help if they’re struggling. Advocate for improved mental health resources in the workplace. Together, we can ensure that no one in the construction industry feels alone in their battle with mental health.

Let’s change the narrative and ensure that those who build our world have the support and understanding they deserve. It’s time to bring hope, healing, and light to an industry that has been in the shadows for too long. 💪🌟
