Free Colorectal Cancer
Screening Event at MCHD
By Jose G. Landa
Nestor Bonilla, Chief Executive Officer of the Maverick County Hospital District, announced that residents of Maverick County will have access to free colorectal cancer screenings as part of an effort to promote early detection and improve community health.
The screenings will be offered through the hospital district’s Mobile Wellness Unit on February 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MCHD, located at 3406 Bob Rogers Drive.
Health officials stress that colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer when detected early, making regular screenings critical, especially for individuals between the ages of 45 and 75, the target group for this event.
According to hospital district officials, no appointment is necessary to receive the screening, and services will be provided quickly and confidentially. Insurance coverage is not required, making the service accessible to all eligible residents.
To further encourage participation, individuals who complete the colorectal screening will receive a $25 gift card. In addition to cancer screenings, other free health screenings will also be available during the event.
Bonilla emphasized that community outreach efforts like this aim to remove barriers to preventive care and encourage residents to take proactive steps toward protecting their health.
Medical staff remind residents that a simple screening today can make a significant difference tomorrow, and encourage community members to take advantage of the opportunity.
For many families in the county, access to free preventive care services can help detect health issues early and reduce long-term medical complications.
Community members are encouraged to attend and spread the word to friends and relatives who may benefit from the services.
Hospital district officials say they remain committed to expanding wellness services throughout the region and ensuring residents have access to essential preventive healthcare close to home.
