ESTEBAN TREVINO SR. passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 82. He was born on January 19, 1944, in Eagle Pass, Texas to Jose Guadalupe and Maria Guadalupe Trevino, the oldest of two children.
A devoted husband, father and proud grandfather, Esteban will be remembered for his faith, dedication to military service, educating young minds and love for his family.
On June 10th, 1965, Esteban was drafted into the United States Army and deployed to Vietnam with Company “D” 41st Signal Battalion. He served his country honorably until 1967 when his service ended and he was honorably discharged as SP4 with Honors that included National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Rifle M14, Vietnam Campaign and Service Medal.
On December 9, 1972, Esteban married the love of his life, Maria del Rosario Esquivel. Together they built a life with their two children, Esteban (Steve), Jr., and Maria del Rosario (Chayito). In 2022, they celebrated their 50th anniversary by renewing their vows in a place they loved, Las Vegas, surrounded by family.
After serving his country, Esteban attended Sul Ross State University and used his education degree when he joined the faculty of Eagle Pass Independent School District as a second-grade teacher at Benavides Elementary School then at Rosita Valley Elementary School. Retiring after 27 years, he devoted his time to his family and honored fellow soldiers. He volunteered with VFW Post # 8562’s Color Guard to pay tribute to fellow soldiers.
Esteban is survived by his loving wife, Maria del Rosario; children, Esteban, Jr. (Karla) and Maria del Rosario (Jesus); grandchildren Alexandra Skye, Jacqueline Halsey, and Miguel Angel; sister, Maria del Carmen Ramos (Jesse); numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous compadres and comadres.
He was deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure. While his absence is profoundly felt, his legacy lives on in the family he nurtured, the friendships he cultivated and the life he so beautifully shared with Rosario.
The family will receive visitors at Yeager Barrera Mortuary for celebration of life on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 3pm to 8pm at 1613 Del Rio Blvd, Eagle Pass, Texas with a Rosary beginning at 7pm. The mass service will take place at St. Joseph’s Church in Eagle Pass, Texas on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 12 noon. Burial will follow at the Eagle Pass Catholic Cemetery.
