🚨 Mushroom Alert in Eagle River — Is Your Dog at Risk? 🍄🐾
With warm, damp weather, wild mushrooms are popping up everywhere—yards, trails, and parks. While some may look harmless, even one toxic mushroom can cause serious illness or be fatal.
🧐 Watch for these signs of mushroom toxicity:
• Vomiting, diarrhea, or drooling
• Lethargy, weakness, or wobbliness
• Abdominal pain or loss of appetite
• Tremors, seizures, or ataxia (stumbling/uncoordinated movement)
• Jaundice (yellow eyes, gums, or skin) — indicates possible liver damage ()
• Increased drinking/urination (kidney involvement), rapid heart/respiratory changes
🆘 What to do if you suspect ingestion:
1. Call Eagle River Animal Hospital ASAP — don’t wait for symptoms. Every minute counts!
2. Bring a sample or photo of the mushroom (use a damp paper towel, paper bag—not plastic)
3. At the clinic, we can induce vomiting (if recent), administer activated charcoal, start IV fluids, and run blood tests to monitor liver and kidney function
4. Treatment may also include medications for seizures, tremors, gastrointestinal support, and liver protection
⚠️ Prevention Tips:
• Assume all wild mushrooms are toxic
• Check and remove mushrooms from your yard daily
• Keep dogs leashed on wet, fungal-prone trails
