Who wants to end Obamacare, destroy the foundations of Progressivism And PERMANENTLY solve the healthcare "crisis?"
Liberals are always screaming that the Republican’s tax bills will cost millions of people to lose their health insurance and DIE!!!
They say that, if the rest of us can't be extorted to pay exorbitant premiums and unreachable deductibles, in order to subsidize those who "can't" pay their own way, the "needy" will be left without healthcare.
The problem is not our "greed," but rather the unbridled greed of the government, which sucks up billions of dollars, absorbs most of it for its own benefit, and then dispenses a few drops to the people doing the actual work (eg: the doctors).
A simple and elegant solution would be to allow the doctors to take their usual and customary fee, and if the patient is unable to pay for the services received, deduct it directly off of their tax bill at the end of the year. A tax CREDIT; Not just a "deduction," which is only worth the percentage they would pay in taxes (25%?). When doctors perform services which are not reimbursed, they do not just fail to get paid. They invest heavily in the overhead expenses required to deliver that care. They LOSE money, not just forego income, when they provide uncompensated services. If they were able to claim a tax CREDIT, they would recoup their expenses, and a little extra, which would motivate them to see the needy patients without fee. The only ones who would "lose" would be all those government bureaucrats overseeing the health care payments under the present system.
The present system resembles the old joke about the drinking buddy bringing the bottle of whiskey to revive his comatose friend, as promised, and telling him that he hoped the friend wouldn't mind if he strained it through his own kidneys first.
The drinking buddy derives most of the benefit, and it leaves a bad taste in his friend's mouth.
But of course, this idea is doomed to fail, since it threatens the comfortable positions of all those in power to make the decision. UNLESS this idea is spread, and supported by so many people that we CAN'T be ignored. The "Progressives" will do everything they can to undermine it; it threatens their pretend position of being the ones who "really care." But, of course, what they "really care" about is consolidating their power, not actually providing health care.
In any other country, we would call it "CORRUPTION."
Here, we call it "Progressivism."
