FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 16, 2026
City of Eagle River, Wisconsin

City of Eagle River Provides Update on Ongoing Winter Storm Cleanup Efforts

The City of Eagle River, Vilas County, Wisconsin continues to respond to challenging winter weather conditions following the recent winter storm.

Although the area received only a couple of additional inches of snow Sunday night, high winds have created significant drifting on roadways and sidewalks, and travel conditions throughout the City remain very dangerous.

Due to the ongoing storm response and hazardous travel conditions, City Hall will be closed on Monday, March 16.

City Public Works crews have been working extended hours, and have returned early again today, to continue snow removal operations throughout the City. Crews are actively clearing streets, intersections, and problem areas, but ongoing blowing and drifting snow continues to create additional accumulation even after plowing operations are completed.

To allow crews to work safely and efficiently, residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Reducing traffic will:

Allow plows and equipment to clear drifting snow more effectively
Reduce the risk of accidents and stranded vehicles
Help crews make faster progress restoring safe travel conditions

Motorists who must travel are asked to use extreme caution and give Public Works crews extra space when encountering plows and equipment on City streets. Allowing crews room to work helps improve safety for everyone and allows snow removal operations to proceed more efficiently.

The City of Eagle River appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and visitors as Public Works continues these efforts.

For emergencies, please call 911.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep Eagle River safe.

Thanks,

Robin

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for North-Central and Northeast Wisconsin.

DAY ONE...TONIGHT

After an evening lull, heavy snow will redevelop overnight into Monday morning, with additional accumulations of 5 to 10 inches expected. Strong north winds gusting to 40 to 55 mph will produce widespread blowing and drifting of the new snow, which will be more powdery than the first batch. Blizzard conditions are likely in spots late tonight into Monday morning, including during the morning commute. The strong winds combined with heavy snow load may result in tree damage and power outages.

Much colder air will work into the region tonight, with wind chill readings falling into the single digits below zero across the North to around zero across East-Central WI. This will create DANGEROUS conditions for any motorists who may become stranded.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect until 4 pm Monday.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Sunday

The historic winter storm will continue to bring moderate snowfall to Northeast WI on Monday, before tapering off Monday afternoon.

Blizzard or near-blizzard conditions are expected in the morning, but should gradually improve during the afternoon. This storm will go down in the record books, with most locations receiving between 15 and 30 inches of snow.

Bitter cold temperatures arrive Monday morning, with wind chill readings from 10 below zero north to around zero over east- central WI.

A light accumulation snowfall is possible Tuesday night into Wednesday.

PLEASE STAY SAFE!!
