North Summit Fitness The goal of North Summit Fitness is to help you find and maintain the journey to your "peak fitness".

From weight loss to performance training, whatever your health goals are, I'd love the opportunity to help you start your journey towards that summit! Often the most challenging and unique part to a mountain's summit is found on the northern side of nature's tallest creation. North Summit Fitness was founded with the principle of helping you to achieve the summit in your life. If given the opportunity - whether it be weight loss, athletic training, or simply "getting into shape" - through personal training and coaching, I hope to help you reach that summit. :)

To push, or not to push (and how much)? It can be tricky knowing when and how much to accelerate your training in order to achieve the most growth. Our muscles, bones, and even aerobic efficiency best progress from micro-tears and the overload principle (simply put, pushing your body past its various thresholds by a percentage). Everyone's starting point - and their body's stress tolerance/recovery time - is different, but as a general rule you can "safely" increase your weekly volume, frequency, and intensity by 5-15%. If you're current program is taxing your body fairly hard, there isn't necessarily a reason to progress, so with that 5-15% in mind, listen to your body and let it experience the growth it needs in the moment (building any aspect of fitness, while they all vary, takes time). Of course, a lot more goes into progressing one's training, but hopefully this gives you a bit of insight into a "safe" range to increase your workouts. Trick for Calf Stretching. Short post for today! When doing a calf stretch on the wall, you can stretch deeper into your lower leg (i.e. your soleus) by bending your knee at least 20 degrees as you stretch. Or, if you keep your knee extended and push your hips toward the wall, you'll target more of your superficial calf muscles (i.e your gastrocnemius). So if your lower leg is sore, and your normal calf stretch isn't doin' it for ya, give these options a try! Hope this helps! 🤗

Healthiest Berry? According to most research, blueberries! They're incredibly dense in antioxidants, and have a healthy portion of fiber, vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium. Try incorporating these into your breakfast for a small change that can have a great positive effect in your diet! And with the summer winding down and the fall coming up, now's a great time to get outside and pick some of these beautiful blue berries! 😃

Electrolytes. There are SO many options for electrolyte mixes out there - Hydrate IV, Gatorade, Prime, Nuun, and Skratch Labs to name a few. How do you know which is best for you? First, it depends a bit on your activity (type, volume, and intensity), but with that in mind, there's a general breakdown of electrolytes that are lost in sweat: 1 liter of sweat contains mostly sodium (460mg to 1840mg) and chloride (710mg to 2840mg), but next is potassium (160 to 390mg), then magnesium (0mg to 36mg) and calcium (0mg to 120mg) (Naak, 2023). To save you from a 1000-word essay of a post, we'll leave it at this - especially if you're an endurance athlete, look for an electrolyte mix that closely mirrors this breakdown to replace what you lost.
