✨ Self-Care Isn’t Selfish—It’s Essential ✨

In the middle of busy schedules, endless to-do lists, and caring for others, it’s easy to put yourself last.

But here’s the truth: you can’t pour from an empty cup. 💛

Self-care is about protecting your energy, your health, and your peace of mind. Whether it’s:

🌿 Taking a walk outside
📖 Reading a few pages of a good book
🧘‍♀️ Practicing mindfulness
💤 Prioritizing rest
💧 Drinking more water

—these small acts build resilience, reduce stress, and help you show up as your best self.

Today’s reminder: You are worthy of the same love and care you give to others. 🌸

September is National Cholesterol Education Month, making it the perfect time for community members to know their cholesterol levels – and take steps to prevent or reduce high cholesterol.

High cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States. People with high cholesterol are twice as likely to have heart disease than people with lower cholesterol levels.

An unhealthy lifestyle is the most common cause of high “bad” LDL cholesterol or low “good” HDL cholesterol.

What raises the risk for unhealthy blood cholesterol levels?

Eating a lot of foods high in saturated fats raises “bad” LDL cholesterol levels. Saturated fats are found in animal products including fatty cuts of meat, cheese, and full fat dairy products. No more than 10% of your daily calories should come from saturated fats.

Lack of physical activity
Smoking lowers HDL cholesterol, particularly in women, and raises LDL cholesterol.

Stress may raise levels of certain hormones, such as corticosteroid. These can cause your body to make more cholesterol.

Drinking too much alcohol (more than two drinks a day for men or one drink a day for women) can raise your total cholesterol level.

Everyone can benefit from knowing their cholesterol numbers and doing what they can to prevent or reduce high cholesterol levels.

Send us a DM to schedule your wellness visit and have your cholesterol checked today today!

NATIONAL EAT OUTSIDE DAY

Friends, fresh air, and good food are the focus of National Eat Outside Day every year on August 31. Whether at home, a park, a favorite restaurant or food truck, food just tastes better when we eat it under the open sky.

Many foods lend themselves to eating outdoors but sometimes it’s as simple as taking your prepared plate out to the balcony, porch, or patio.

Eat Outside Day encourages you to taste the sunshine (or the moonlight) while eating your meal. It’s like a mini stay-cation where you get to recharge while enjoying a delicious feast outdoors.

Spending time outside can help with depression too.

Here’s why:
Sunlight exposure boosts vitamin D and helps regulate serotonin, a brain chemical linked to mood.

Physical activity (even a short walk) increases endorphins and reduces stress.

Nature connection can lower rumination (repetitive negative thoughts) and promote calmness.

Fresh air & change of environment break up feelings of being “stuck” indoors.

That said, while spending time outdoors can be a powerful mood booster and part of a healthy routine, it’s not a cure for depression. If someone is struggling, professional support (therapy, medication, or both) may be needed.

So grab your meal and go eat outside today, the warm weather will be gone and it will be cold soon enough! ☀️

NATIONAL GOT CHECKED DAY

National Got Checked Day on August 26th, creates a call to action, providing a friendly reminder and asking a simple question, “got checked?” Be inspired when you answer, “YES!”

Routine breast cancer screenings do save lives. However, it is also important to begin breast/chest health much earlier in life.

Planting the seed of prevention young establishes breast/chest health building blocks to last a lifetime. While it starts with a gradual routine in youth, anyone can continue the routine throughout adulthood.

National Got Checked? Day inspires women and men of all ages to improve their lifestyle choices and observe all the screening recommendations.

Got Checked? grew out of the need for a gradual routine that starts early in life. The routine includes decreasing fear, promoting self-awareness, and making it part of your daily life. For example, in the US, mammograms were once set at age 50. Now, however, most states’ laws make the age prescription 40 years old.

Schedule your screening today.
