Honoring Our Heroes in the Sky!
The Cottages Senior Living, in partnership with Dream Flights, proudly gave 7 incredible veterans the flight of a lifetime in a historic Boeing Stearman open-cockpit bi-plane! 🌟
These brave men and women once served our country with courage and strength—and yesterday, we got to serve them by giving them wings again. One of the veterans who flew was James Thompson, Cottages at Columbia Village.
Here is some of his story, James Thompson proudly served in the United States Army as an E3 for three years. After graduating high school, he enlisted and began basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington, followed by nine months of training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was then stationed in Germany for 27 months, where he served as a cook, supporting his fellow soldiers abroad.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, James brought dedication and resilience to every chapter of his life. After his military service, he worked as a roofer, a career he pursued faithfully for over 40 years until retirement.
James was married for four years and is the proud father of his son, Rex. Known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his family and community, James represents the quiet strength of those who served both in uniform and at home.

The smiles, the cheers, and the pure joy on their faces reminded us all why we honor and celebrate our nation’s heroes. 🇺🇸✨

Honoring Our Heroes in the Sky!
The Cottages Senior Living, in partnership with Dream Flights, proudly gave 7 incredible veterans the flight of a lifetime in a historic Boeing Stearman open-cockpit bi-plane! 🌟
These brave men and women once served our country with courage and strength—and yesterday, we got to serve them by giving them wings again. One of the veterans who flew was Frank Wasson, Cottages at Columbia Village.
Here is some of his story, Frank Wasson proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. Enlisting right after high school, he was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base, where he worked in the flight kitchen preparing meals for pilots serving during the Vietnam War. Though he was never deployed overseas, Frank’s dedication and service supported countless airmen during a critical time in U.S. history.
Following his military service, Frank continued his commitment to public service as a sheriff’s deputy in Nebraska for four years before moving to Idaho. He later served as a deputy in Owyhee County until his retirement. Public service ran deep in his family—his father was a Navy cook, and his son proudly carries on the tradition today as a deputy in Owyhee County.
Frank built his life around service, family, and community. From his roots in Iowa to his many years in Boise, he embodied hard work, loyalty, and a deep respect for duty.
The smiles, the cheers, and the pure joy on their faces reminded us all why we honor and celebrate our nation’s heroes. 🇺🇸✨
