We had a great time supporting The Cottages Assisted Living at Columbia Village Open House! It was a pleasure meeting their incredible team and seeing firsthand the warm, welcoming community they’ve created for their residents. We always appreciate the opportunity to connect with organizations that share our passion for caring for seniors and supporting families in our community.

We loved putting together and gifting a basket full of Idaho swag for their team to enjoy, a small way to say thank you for the amazing work they do every day.

Thank you to The Cottages at Columbia Village for inviting Idaho Pharmacy to be part of such a special event. We look forward to continuing to support you in serving our community!

A common insulin pen issue Pharmacists see is improper priming. Always use a new pen needle for every injection and prime the pen with each administration. Priming means dialing 1–2 units and pressing the plunger to push insulin through the needle before giving your dose. Seeing one or two droplets at the needle tip confirms the pen is ready to use. Sometimes there’s already enough internal pressure in the pen, and a droplet appears as soon as the needle is attached—if that happens, you can proceed with dosing. If no insulin appears after priming 2–3 units, replace the pen needle. Needles can be blocked, bent, or defective. Keep in mind that new insulin pens often require several units for the initial prime.

Proper priming helps ensure you receive the full, accurate dose every time.

This logo, designed by Dr. James Hunt, is a visual expression of both place and purpose. At its foundation is the unmistakable outline of the state of Idaho, grounding the practice in the land and communities it serves. The state silhouette reflects a deep respect for Idaho’s natural beauty, independence, and resilience—values that mirror the character of the people who call it home.

Integrated within the state is the classic mortar and pestle, a timeless symbol of pharmacy and healing. Its placement within Idaho’s borders signifies that care is not abstract or distant, but local, personal, and deeply connected to the community. The mortar’s curved lines suggest protection, steadiness, and compassion, while the pestle in motion represents active service, knowledge, and precision in care.

The green color palette reinforces themes of nature, growth, and wellness, echoing Idaho’s forests, fields, and mountains. It also symbolizes renewal and trust—core principles in healthcare and patient relationships. The vertical “Idaho Pharmacy” text anchors the design with clarity and professionalism, reinforcing a commitment to ethical practice and dependable service.
Together, these elements encapsulate Dr. Hunt’s vision: a pharmacy rooted in Idaho’s landscape, guided by respect for nature, and devoted to serving those entrusted to its care with integrity, expertise, and heart.

Meet Dr. Lyman Holyoak, Lead Pharmacist. Lyman is an experienced pharmacist with a background rooted in independent pharmacy practice. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in French from Brigham Young University and went on to complete his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the LECOM School of Pharmacy in Erie, Pennsylvania, graduating in 2009.

Lyman began his pharmacy career early, working as a clerk at Eastgate Drug in Ammon, Idaho after school. He continued working there throughout high school and during college breaks, gaining hands-on experience in independent retail pharmacy. Following graduation, he transitioned from independent retail pharmacy into independent long-term care (LTC) pharmacy, where he has continued to apply his strong foundation in patient-centered care and operational pharmacy practice.

Originally from Eastern Idaho, Lyman values the outdoors and family traditions, having spent many Saturdays fishing with his father. He and his wife share a deep love for pharmacy, as she has worked as a pharmacy technician for several years, further strengthening their mutual appreciation for the profession. Outside of work, he enjoys volunteering with Scouting America and building a small amateur radio station with his youngest son. His personal interests include geocaching, disc golf, rockhounding, and camping with his wife and their four children.

Lyman and his family enjoy a fun and full household that includes a long-haired miniature dachshund, four cats, several honeybee colonies, flocks of chickens, and racing homer pigeons, reflecting his appreciation for animals, hands-on hobbies, and learning.

Best advice for patients: Keep your mind in action as much as your body should be in motion.

Life motto: Use the correct tool for the job.

We are incredibly grateful to have Lyman on our team. His in-depth experience, passion, and heart for long-term care pharmacy are a vital addition to Idaho Pharmacy, and we truly love having him with us.

Meet Dr. James Hunt, Owner/Pharmacist of Idaho Pharmacy. James is a committed healthcare professional, educator, and advocate for truly patient-centered care. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Idaho State University in 2018, where he demonstrated early leadership by founding the Interprofessional Student Association (IPSA), an organization designed to foster collaboration among future healthcare professionals.

Following graduation, James completed a PGY-1 residency specializing in ambulatory care and chronic disease management. He went on to become a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and later expanded his expertise by earning an MBA with a concentration in healthcare management from Northwest Nazarene University. Deeply invested in education and mentorship, James regularly provides certified continuing education for fellow healthcare professionals and enjoys supporting learners at every stage of their careers.

A native of Idaho’s Treasure Valley, James has long valued the region’s natural beauty and strong community spirit. He resides in Boise with his wife, his greatest supporter, who is completing her PhD in Organizational Psychology while successfully running her own business. Together, they are proud parents of two accomplished adult children and share their home with two large rescue dogs who keep life active.

Outside of pharmacy, James enjoys spending time outdoors, restoring and maintaining his Toyota Land Cruiser, and taking on small woodworking projects. His strong work ethic began early with his first job at The Bench Animal Hospital, where he helped care for animals and maintain the facility.

Best advice for patients:
“Take ownership of your health. Just because there’s a medication doesn’t mean the lifestyle that led to it should continue.”

Life motto:
“I strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. He is my exemplar.” This guiding principle fuels James’s passion for healthcare and his commitment to caring for others.
