🧠 Your brain needs practice to hear its best.
Hearing aids work most effectively when worn consistently throughout the day, not just during social events. Regular wear helps your brain:
👂 Process speech more clearly
👂 Adjust to different sound environments
👂 Feel less overwhelmed in noise
Think of hearing like exercise: the more consistently you show up, the stronger it gets. 💪

⚠️ Not all cleaners are hearing-aid safe.
Alcohol-based wipes may be great for hands and surfaces, but they can damage the outer materials and internal components of hearing aids. Instead, use products specifically designed for hearing devices or ask us about safe, non-alcohol options.
When it comes to cleaning, gentle and hearing-aid–approved is best. 👂✨

👶 Access to sound is essential for speech and language development.
That’s why all babies receive a hearing screening shortly after birth. Early identification of hearing concerns allows families to make informed decisions and begin support as early as possible, setting children up for stronger communication outcomes.
If you ever have concerns about your child’s hearing or speech development, trust your instincts and reach out. Early action makes a big difference! 👂💙

Hearing aids often start with the manufacturer's “first-fit” settings, basically the default setting, like a new phone.
I had a patient tell me, “They were programmed when I got them, so they should be fine… right?”
Sometimes they are. But without verification, it’s also common for fittings to be:
Too soft 👉 speech still unclear (especially s, f, th)
Too sharp 👉 loud but not comfortable
Unbalanced 👉 one ear working harder 👉 more listening fatigue
That’s why we use Real-Ear Measurement (REM). It takes us from “let’s try this and hope” to “let’s measure and confirm.”
If your hearing aids feel “off,” let’s check them!

Daily care doesn’t have to be complicated. Some of the best things you can do at home:
🦻 Wipe your hearing aids with a soft, dry cloth each night
🦻 Use a cleaning brush to clear the microphone ports
🦻 Check wax guards or tubing regularly
Keeping your devices free of debris helps prevent sound issues and unnecessary repairs. When in doubt, we’re always happy to show you how. 😊

👋 Hey, did you know we don’t just help with hearing loss?
If you’re hearing ringing, buzzing, or whooshing sounds, even when it’s quiet, it could be tinnitus, and you’re definitely not alone.
We actually offer tinnitus evaluations and consultations just for that. It gives the audiologist more time to understand what you’re experiencing and talk through options that can really help.
When you call to book, mention the ringing. We’ll make sure you’re scheduled for the right type of visit!

Struggling to hear in noisy places? 🍽️ Location matters.
If you’re dining out or attending a gathering:
👉 Choose a booth or corner table
👉 Sit with your back to a wall
👉 Avoid sitting near kitchens, speakers, or high-traffic areas
Reducing background noise helps your brain focus on speech, with or without hearing aids. Sometimes, where you sit is just as important as what you hear. 👂

👂 One small change can make a big difference in understanding.
When speaking to someone with hearing loss, try to:
💬 Get their attention first
💬 Face them directly
💬 Speak clearly (not louder)
Visual cues like facial expressions and lip movements play a huge role in understanding speech, even for people wearing hearing aids. Good communication isn’t about repeating yourself… it’s about connecting.

So many people assume hearing aids are “set” the moment they turn on… but the truth is, the programming has to match your ear canal for the sound to be right.
I had a patient come in recently who said, “I’m wearing them… but I’m not convinced they’re actually programmed correctly for me.”
Totally fair. And honestly? I like that kind of skepticism, because it means you care about getting it right!
I get it too. I’m the same way with anything important: if I’m investing time and money, I want proof it’s working the way it’s supposed to! ☺️
That’s why during fittings at Elevate Audiology, we use a clinical verification step called Real-Ear Measurement (REM) (also called probe microphone measurement).
What it means: we measure what your hearing aids are actually delivering inside your ear canal, not what the computer assumes it’s delivering.
Because everyone’s ear canals have different turns, bends, and widths, the exact same hearing aid settings can sound different from person to person. 🦻 REMs help us confirm you’re getting the right amount of sound for your hearing loss and for your unique ear anatomy, so we’re not guessing.
The best part? The wins are often immediate:
✅ clearer speech without just “turning it up.”
✅ more comfortable sound (less sharp/less “off”)
✅ more confidence that things are truly fit correctly
If you’re wearing hearing aids and still wondering whether they’re right for your ears, let’s check.

A great day at the South Carolina Statehouse!
Our team from Elevate Audiology joined audiologists from across the state through the South Carolina Academy of Audiology to provide complimentary hearing screenings for legislators, staff, and lobbyists.
We also got invited to sit in the Galleria in both chambers and see what happens on the floor.
We love opportunities like this to raise awareness about hearing health, advocate for patients, and highlight the important role audiologists play in our communities.
Proud to represent our patients and our profession today!

The other day, I was chatting with a patient when the topic of Apple’s newest AirPods came up, the ones that now offer hearing support features.
It’s exciting, no doubt. Technology is evolving fast, and features like conversation boost and sound amplification can genuinely help people become more aware of their hearing.
But here’s the thing I always come back to 👉 there’s a difference between amplifying sound and truly understanding someone’s hearing health.
As an audiologist, I know how personal and complex hearing loss can be. It’s not just about volume; it’s about clarity, the brain’s processing, and the emotional impact of missed connections. 🧠 And while consumer tech might offer a helpful boost for some, it can’t replace a medical-grade, professionally guided solution, especially when it comes to long-term health, tinnitus, cognitive load, or the social effects of hearing loss.
Devices like these may be a starting point. But they’re not the full picture!

Hearing health often goes unnoticed, but it affects more people than you might think.
Over 5% of the world’s population lives with disabling hearing loss, making it one of the most common (and overlooked) health concerns worldwide.
The good news? Many hearing concerns can be identified early and managed with routine care. Regular hearing checkups and timely support help keep you connected to the people and moments that matter most.
On World Hearing Day, we’re proud to support awareness, prevention, and access to hearing care for all. Because hearing health is health. 👂✨

March 2018
Very few people know what an audiologist is until they need one. I did not know what an audiologist was until I was ready to become one!
In late 2007, I sat down with a speech researcher to talk about language and human interaction as a sophomore neuroscience major. I left that meeting realizing I needed to change my major. Audiology merges human interaction, education, and the brain- exactly what I was looking for but needed someone to show me the way.
Throughout all of my experiences, I’ve continuously looked at how to improve a situation or process. My profession is no different. During graduate school and early in my professional career, I would see how things ARE and how they COULD BE.
10 years later, in late 2017, it was time to bring all of those notes and thoughts together to start the best audiology practice there could be. With the support of my husband, family, and friends, Elevate Audiology- Hearing and Tinnitus Center became a reality.
I’m on a mission to empower and educate those with hearing and communication needs as well as those with bothersome tinnitus. There is no reason for people to struggle in these areas unnecessarily. Every decision has been significantly thought out with the patient’s experience and needs in mind. We want to elevate the lives that we touch while elevating what is expected from the audiology field. Not only do we educate our patients and their families but we also continue to educate ourselves to ensure best practices.
We will work for our patients, our community, and for the field of audiology through improved access and advocacy.
