Just finished listening to Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily & Amelia Nagoski and I can't stop talking about it! Stress on our bodies literally takes years off of our lives. We need to deal with the stress so that we can better handle the stressors. Our body has its own language; it's not enough to distract or tell ourselves "I'll feel better when....". We need to support our bodies in completing the stress cycle so that we can flow in and out of our stress response effectively. The authors talk about the many ways we can support our bodies and nervous systems in doing this, but physical activity/movement is the #1 most effective. Other ways include a good cry or laugh, a creative outlet, physical affection from a loved one, diaphragmatic breathing, and/or a positive social interaction.
