Happy Social Work Month! Tune in throughout March to hear from our amazing team of social workers and direct service providers. Today, social worker Sam is sharing ways she has grown by challenging herself:

“One area for growth that I saw myself fulfilling at the ROC was helping conduct and run groups for our participants. As a clinical team, we have each challenged ourselves to run group counseling for populations that normally get overlooked, such as younger children and pre-teens. I have had a lot of fun creating activities and using out-of-the-box ideas for growth and development amongst our participants, such as making DIY body scrubs for self-care and designing a scavenger hunt for communication and resiliency.”

"During Social Work Month, I’m reflecting on the importance of community and connection in the healing process. We are not meant to navigate life alone, meaningful relationships and supportive spaces can foster resilience, belonging, and growth."

Happy Social Work Month! Tune in throughout March to hear from our amazing team of social workers and direct service providers. Today, social worker Emily is sharing one of the interventions she finds most powerful:

"During Social Work Month, I’m honoring the power of reconnecting with our bodies through somatic awareness. Supporting my Participants in building awareness, safety, and compassion within their own bodies is a meaningful part of fostering healing and resilience."

Happy Social Work Month! Tune in throughout March to hear from our amazing team of social workers and direct service providers. Today, social worker Emily shares why she finds her work meaningful:

"During Social Work Month, I’m reflecting on how deeply mindfulness and nature shape my work as a therapist. Creating space for my Participants to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and find grounding in the present moment is one of the most meaningful parts of the work I do."

In recognition of International Women's Day, The ROC is taking a moment to recognize the many wonderful women who are a part of our every day work. From our staff and interns to our volunteers to our board members, we are proud to celebrate the hard work and amazing accomplishments of each of these women - and so thankful that they bring that dedication to The ROC.

Please join us in thanking this fantastic group of volunteers from Fisher-Price! They spent two hours helping us get an early start on some spring cleaning - from giving the kitchen a good scrub to steam cleaning chairs and washing windows. They even made sure all the screws on our multi-purpose room chairs were tightened! We are so grateful for their support and hard work. Thank you!

As of January 13, 2026, a new Enhanced Energy Affordability Program, or EEAP, expanded the availability of benefits to include utility customers below median income who do not qualify for assistance under existing traditional EAPs. Contact your utility or go to https://nyeeap.com to learn more.

EAP is a program designed to help low-income customers to manage their energy bill. You may qualify for EAP if you participate in a variety of other New York State programs. Contact your utility companies or visit their website for individual EAP applications.

Enrollment in these programs is open year round.

For questions or assistance enrolling in these programs, you can contact The ROC at 716-240-2220 ext. 101 and schedule an appointment with care coordinator Kelly.

It's - and today that meant The ROC's own billing and events specialist Lisa and chief program officer Nichole made quite the entrance! They had matching outfits, boomboxes, and even a coordinating soundtrack! We never quite know what these two have up their sleeves, but - as any kid who participates in a ROC experience will tell you - if Nichole is involved, it's bound to be fun!

Happy Social Work Month! Tune in throughout March to hear from our amazing team of social workers and direct service providers. Today, Our Director of Social Work Kelsey shares why she loves what she does:

"My absolute favorite thing about the work I do is when a Participant experiences a moment of realization. A moment where they truly make a connection, or experience a deep awareness and understanding. The moment sometimes happens hours or days after a session, and it often comes with a realization that they are capable and can achieve the really hard things they’re working toward. When that moment happens it is truly magical."

We are so thankful to have an amazing group of social workers here at The ROC to support people as they experience these moments - and so humbled by the hundreds of people who have trusted us to be a part of that journey with them.
