July 🏠 When Your High School Grad Still Lives at Home: Balancing Independence & Boundaries
🎓 “I’m an adult now!”
Your teen may be newly graduated—but if they’re still living at home, it might be time to reset the family dynamic.
Post-grad life brings big identity shifts. Teens are craving more independence, but they still rely on family support. That’s why it’s so important to have open, respectful conversations about curfews, chores, and household expectations. 💬
Try framing it as a team effort:
✨ “Let’s figure out what adulthood looks like while you’re still here at home.”
Give space where you can—but don’t disappear. Respecting your teen’s autonomy doesn’t mean removing structure. In fact, healthy boundaries are key to helping them step into adulthood with confidence. 💙 Letting go doesn’t mean disconnecting—it means staying connected in a new way.

How to help kids navigate boredom in a healthy way!
When your child says 'I’m bored,' resist the urge to solve it for them right away. Boredom is the space where imagination, problem-solving, and emotional growth are born. Here's how to help your child learn to sit with it—and use it.
Why boredom is good: stimulates creative thinking, builds problem-solving skills, encourages self-reflection, helps kids learn to tolerate unstructured time.
Boredom toolkit:
move your body: obstacle course, dance party, walk dog
make something: fort, legos, recycled materials, art project
help out: wash windows, make a snack, organize toys
quiet time: book, color, puzzle, guided meditation for kids
Over-scheduling takes away the opportunity for kids to learn how to generate their own ideas. Boredom is uncomfortable—but it’s also a doorway to independence and emotional growth. Visit our website to learn more! CenterforCBT.org

Our Vision

We started the Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy with one mission: to help children, adolescents, and adults live more meaningful and productive lives. Both raising a child and being one are tall orders in today’s climate. And having a psychological condition often compounds the challenges. We envision a world where youth can succeed, both in spite of their challenges and because of them, where they will develop and implement the skills to overcome their challenges, and where they believe that they can accomplish anything to which they put their minds.

We provide practical, goal-oriented strategies grounded in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and behaviorism. CBT is the gold-standard and most well-researched psychotherapy treatment for a variety of psychological disorders and behavioral challenges. It is based on the idea that understanding the way individuals think, feel, and act are all related to each other. Our work together focuses on carefully understanding the circumstances which may contribute to an individual’s patterns of behavior, developing a clear plan for treatment, and implementing interventions that promote more positive, desirable behaviors.

Our team is supported by passionate and committed psychologists who work closely together to ensure that you receive a high-quality level of care. We provide children, adolescents, and adults with the necessary skills to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals. We also work with parents and caregivers to provide them with the knowledge and tools needed to be accepting, validating, and effective in raising children. We work creatively to serve as a resource to you as you navigate the ever-changing world we live in and the challenges that come with it.
