Pregnancy brings changes that affect the entire body, including oral health. Hormonal shifts can increase gum inflammation and bleeding, and untreated oral infections have been associated with pregnancy complications.

Routine dental care is safe during pregnancy and plays an important role in overall prenatal health. If concerns like bleeding gums, pain, or swelling arise, it’s important to discuss them with both dental and prenatal care providers.

Small preventive steps can support healthier outcomes for both parent and baby.

OB/GYN hospitalists navigate complex clinical decisions and emotionally challenging cases every day. While expertise and training guide the work, the emotional impact of caring for patients through difficult outcomes is often carried quietly.

Team Thrive is one way SOGH supports its members by creating space for peer connection, shared understanding, and resiliency after challenging experiences. Because supporting clinicians is essential to sustaining compassionate, high-quality care.

Join SOGH to access this member benefit and be part of a community that supports one another.

Betsey, Lucy, and Anarcha were enslaved Black women whose bodies were subjected to repeated, nonconsensual gynecologic experimentation in the 1840s. Their pain was used to advance surgical practices, while their names, voices, and humanity were largely erased from medical history.

Remembering their story is essential to understanding the roots of medical racism and why ethics, consent, and dignity must remain central to women’s health care today. Their experiences continue to inform conversations about trust, equity, and accountability in medicine.

We honor Betsey, Lucy, and Anarcha with the love and respect they always deserved.

National Donor Day reminds us that love can take many forms. Organ, eye, and tissue donation is one of the most powerful acts of generosity, offering others the chance at healing, time, and life.

We recognize donors, honor their families, and acknowledge the clinicians who support patients through every step of this process. Donation is more than a medical decision. It is a profound expression of care for people we may never meet.

Learn more about donation and how you can support this life-saving work.
