It was this family’s 2nd baby, but first homebirth. The peace and calm filled the room while she labored, as we just sat and held the space. As baby was peacefully born into the water, I reminded her to “reach down and pick up your baby.” Her shear joy and excitement wasn’t just seen. It was heard, and felt, and it saturated the room!
As the midwife team, we are simply there to quietly monitor and observe normal. To watch as mom or dad catches their baby. To keep the room quiet and calm, and observe the mamababy unit close enough to see normal, and far enough away to leave them their space. This was one of the many births where we got to do just that. ❤️
(There’s also the times while we quietly observe that things begin to deviate from normal. When mama or baby tell us things through their unspoken language that we must intervene, as gently or as vigorously as needed. But that’s a whole other topic for another day.)
When the room is dim and calm for birth the phone pics are not always crisp and clear photos. But the captured memories are still there. Alivia ( ) captured these photos for the parents, in between her many other tasks as Assistant.
Thanks so much to this family for openly offering that we could share their photos on our page. It was certainly a birth worth sharing about! We loved getting to know this family! And like so many others, it was sad to see them off for their recent 6-week visit. But I’m sure our paths will cross again. ❤️
