Heart & Hands Doula

Heart & Hands Doula Rhonda Huot, DONA Trained Birth Doula, Lactation Counselor, Birth Photographer It is your experience and special to you; therefore, special to me.

I am very passionate about natural childbirth and helping women/couples to have a safe, healthy and positive birth experience. I added this page to post birth-related articles as a resource for all the birth junkies out there and also as a place for you to post questions, fears, birth experiences and stories. I may not have all the answers you seek but will do my best to help you find them. I am also hoping if someone posts a question here that anyone who has experience, incite or other to the post that we can all be a helpful resource to that person. I was DONA trained back in August of 2004 and received my birth doula certification in 2006. I have been serving the Greater Grand Forks, ND/East Grand Forks, MN and surrounding areas since then. I also took the research-based training to become a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) through Healthy Children's: The Center for Breastfeeding in 2006. We all love birth stories so feel free to share anytime; even if your birth happened 50 years ago! Each birth is a memorable experience, and I would love to hear yours no matter how it happened.

We have the most breathtaking views as we wait on a baby. This family is blessed to live in a gorge in rural North Dakota on an old originally homesteaded farm. Only thing missing is my big girl camera. @ North Dakota

This sweet little chunk of love is a week old already. He was 10 pounds and #302 for me. I’ve served this family five times, and his mother birthed him beautifully. It’s an honor to serve repeat clients. ❤️

This sweet little girl came after a string of babies. Her mother was so strong and breathed through a swollen cervix beautifully. This little lady was so low making it hard to breathe through those intense ‘pushy’ contractions, but she did it, and her precious gift was born just over an hour later.

A new baby is on the way, and his grandma is ready for his arrival with some sweet little gifts.

This is a pretty big read but it contains a lot of important data. The big take away is to find a good prenatal vitamin that contains folate as it is so much easier for the body to metabolize than its synthetic form (folic acid). Folate is a crucial nutrient during early pregnancy and helps to reduce the risk of birth defects of the brain and spine.

How is folic acid different from folate? Folate: why it’s Superior to Folic Acid for Pregnancy (even if you don’t have MTHFR). Unmetabolized folic acid can be harmful in pregnancy.
