EVERYONE IS "CREATIVE" IN YOUR OWN WAY
So many times I have had clients and friends tell me they are "not creative." They don't have a creative bone in their body. But the very fact that they exist disproves that very statement.
Creativity is a function of being alive. Being able to rethink things and analyze things and organize things to assist in our very survival is part of our ability as humans to be creative. If you can write a letter, cook a meal, pick out an outfit, etc, etc, you are being creative.
To often, when we think of "being creative," immediately our minds go to being an artist, or a writer or sculptor. Any of the pronounced creative traits. We think of people who are often unconventional, and different and perhaps "weird." People who live outside the normal way of life, who take risks and who often are not stable, either in money or emotions, in the conventional sense.
For many, to be creative is "scary." It is risky. But also, exciting, but too often, not worth the chance of going outside of our comfort zone. As a society, we look at those extremely creative people, almost in the same way we think about "unicorns," or some other mythical being. Something that is fine "for you to be that way, but I could never do that. My life would not allow it."
And I guess, to some extent, scary and risky are true. But all decisions we make in our lives that bring about change, have some element of both of those. To the degree that is occurs, is the deciding factor.
To own your creative spirit you first need to consider whether or not you feel being in a space to be creative puts you, or the way you live your life at risk.
Want to be creative? Want to at least explore it, to go to a cooking class, taking a singing lesson join a writing group? Then this I think is the first step.
TRUST.
Trust in yourself, that you are a solid person. Trust that you know when something is getting out of control. Trust that you can stop whenever you want to. Trust and acknowledge that you are secure enough in your life that if you try something and you find it is not the greatest thing you have ever done it doesn't matter. Acknowledge that there is benefit in doing things for experience of doing it, not the end result of the measure of how well you did it or what it brings to your life materialistically.
Being creative does require you to not have expectations of an outcome. It asks us to TRUST that by just being in the moment and doing something, regardless of the outcome, benefits us. I think we often "choose" to not be creative or to allow ourselves to spend time in our creativity because somehow our mind has determined that if there is not a materialistic result it is a waste of time. That our if fail we look like loser or silly and that will effect how others see us and our place in the world.
TRUST YOURSELF to be a strong solid person to the extent to where it doesn't matter if you are not the most creative person in the room. It is not so much as "loosen up," it is more about "accept yourself" in all your wonderful forms. Especially, in your creative self.
You don't have to be the artist that creates a work of art, but you can be a the artist of your own life
CREATING it in the way that would like it to be, with no expectations.
Your creativity is your life force. At any level. It changes you. It enlightens you. It creates YOU.
