Rock Type 1

Rock Type 1 Rock Type 1 is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those with type All donations are tax deductible.

When our son Liam was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 7, we made a promise to him that he would be able to continue doing all of the things that he had been doing before his diagnosis, including rock climbing. As a result of remaining active, he continues to be a strong, healthy kid, despite the challenges presented by his medical condition. We founded Rock Type 1 to encourage individuals with type 1 diabetes to embrace an active lifestyle. Our mission is to provide opportunities for individuals to experience rock climbing and other activities, as well as providing education regarding the benefits of exercise. DONATIONS to Rock Type 1 can made online through the PayPal link below. Rock Type 1 is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, operating under the FEIN 46-1264197. We loved partnering with Camp Surefire and Breakthrough T1D Greater New England for a great evening of climbing and T1D connections! Thanks to Central Rock Warwick for hosting yet another great event. Lastly, a huge shout out to the generous support of RT1 from the Red Sox Foundation that made the evening possible.

COVID vaccine #1 for this kid. So grateful that included type 1 diabetes in their underlying conditions and that and many others worked so hard to make this happen.

For those of you searching for a COVID vaccine appointment, this tool is amazing! After spending most of the last two days searching online and calling pharmacies, we signed up for this tool late last night, got a text alert around 3 am that appointments had become available in our area, and signed our son up for his first shot on Thursday!

This is a site built by a few folks who were tired of clicking refresh on pharmacy websites trying to get a vaccine appointment. It won't make you eligible for a vaccine, sign you up for one, or make slots appear, but it will save you from clicking refresh a lot.

Ten years ago today, our son Liam was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. We had a very steep learning curve ahead as we navigated keeping our 7 year old safe while he remained active and adventurous. The t1d community has been a huge source of support and inspiration. When we started Rock Type 1, our goal was to contribute to the sense of community among those affected by t1d. We were not sure anyone would show up at our first event, but you did! On top of that, volunteers have shown up to make events happen time and time again. As we reflect on all that has happened over the last 10 years, there is so much gratitude. In addition to receiving care from an amazing endocrinologist and an incredibly kind group of school nurses over the years, Liam has had the good fortune to find his t1d family at . There are also countless individuals and organizations who have made it all feel more manageable, and the improvements in technology over the last 10 years have made it much easier for our now 17 year old to keep himself safe. We hope that all of you are safe and healthy, and we are so looking forward to a time when we can climb together again!
